She's being monitored 24/7 and anticipate a week to 10 day hospital stay. We get to visit her during this time and will be down there tomorrow to check on her. About a 45 minute drive.

Thank you all very much!
Of course, prayers given, please keep advised.

Student vet at the hospital called a little while ago. Lucy is stable after a 4 hour transfusion yesterday. Her red blood count went up slightly but dropped again. Will probably give another transfusion today. She ate a little food.

She will be 9 in August and looks like she has a rather uphill battle. Prognosis is a little better than 50/50.

Can't wait to see her this evening.

Lucy update:

After running numerous test and eliminating the possible causes of her auto-immune disease, nothing definitive was found. No signs of cancer in bone marrow or elsewhere. Much relief! One of the resident Doctors said it's most likely a genetic disease (IMHA) she has had since birth and it has just raised its ugly head.

Best news is that it looks like we will be able to get her back home Sunday.

Follow up visits will be done; probably monthly, to see if her body will start producing enough red cells and platelets with the medication she will be on.

We were quite impressed with the Auburn University Small Animal Hospital care facility and staff.

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Our traveling companion, sweetest and best dog ever succumbed to her disease last night. We got the call from her care doctor at 2:00 am saying she had quit breathing. They never expected that and we were just told yesterday that her lungs were strong. No words to express our feelings except heart broken.

Had such high hopes of bringing her home tomorrow but she had taken a turn for the worse.

RIP Lucy, our "Sweetie Girl".

Hi Yosemitebob, I'm new to forums, so I hope I'm doing this right. I'd like to ask you a question. We just traded our 5th wheel in for a 22' Four Winds Motor Home. With 2 big Shepadoodles, I see your dogs are big too, did you ever travel in a small motorhome with them and found a way to keep them out from under your feet? Thanks in advance!

Yes, we traveled in a Lance Camper Truck for 6,000 miles with them. Wow, talk about crowded. But we don't go anywhere without them. Now as you can see I have a 33SW, and yes, they are still in the way, but you gotta love them. They are trained to not get on the bed during the night while we are sleeping, the rest of the coach is there's at that time. And all we have to tell them is to move, and they do so. When we have company, we tell them to go to the front. And that is where you saw them sitting in our driving seats They are really good about traveling and love it too.

It has been a sad weekend for us as we lost one of our pups during our weekend camping trip. Sydney the Aussie Shepherd had been sick for several weeks, at first it seemed like a liver disease but that turned out to be severe pancreatitis. She was hospitalized but then released.

For quite some time the vets ran tests and we tried to get her back to her normal habits but she would not eat or drink until after vomiting large volumes of bile. She was becoming very dehydrated and lethargic and for every step forward was taking two steps backward, losing almost 12 pounds. With no prognosis or hope in sight, we decided to let her go peacefully and it was one of the very hardest things I have ever had to do. Sydney was only 3 years old and loved to travel with us, always Velcro'd to the floor at my feet ... but she will remain in our hearts forever.

jpmihalk,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Our first Therapy Dog, Pogo, passed away 5 years ago this month...still miss her.

Below is a picture from last year at Happy Holiday Campground Cherokee NC off HWY 19 just 4 miles from Harrahs Cherokee Casino. The sites were nice and level. Center is my wife, Sheree and the dogs Satin Doll(Black Lab) and Munpi (pronounce Moonpie, Aussie?Lab?Dog mix). Satin has been a Therapy dog for coming up on 5 years now, Munpi will be tested this month and should get her papers!

Safe travels.
