MKZ hybrid towing

Does anybody tow an MKZ hybrid using a car dolly . I know what the manuals say but they don't actually say you can use a dolly .TIA

I tow a C-Max Energi on a dolly. It has the exact same powertrain as the MKZ hybrid (its just a bit heavier with the big battery in the back).

So far we've pulled it over 3000 miles without an issue.

I use the Acme Tow Dolly with surge brakes. It has performed well for us.

One last question . I know the car must be in neutral . Do you start the car after 6 hours .

Doesn't matter either way. My thought is that the car should be in neutral simply because hills, bridges, dips, etc. will change the angle between the dolly and the car necessitating that the front wheels turn.

We've taken a few trips with the car in neutral and, yes we had to start it or the battery would be dead. Check your owner's manual, though, because I think the MKZ has a neutral tow feature that lets you completely shut off the car in neutral (instead of the dash complaining "put in park" for 600 miles).

Having said all that, however: We took a trip this past summer that was 1500 miles. For the entire trip I left the C-Max in park and off. Didn't have a single issue with the dolly, or the straps. (My speculation is that there is enough play in the transmission and gearing that it doesn't matter--that or the tires simply slip inside the straps.) I do check the straps every stop--sometimes even making a specific stop to check the setup.

I have gone 4 down. Therefore have a 2016 Acme Dolly in perfect condition. Include spare and extra lights. $1000.00 LOS ANGELES area.

We flat tow our 17 MKZ hybrid. It is to simple to flat tow that I wouldn't dream of dealing with a dolly. My wife hooks and unhooks the tow bars while I put in or take out the brake box. I have seen way to many people lying on the ground trying to strap tires to tow dolly that I can't see how that is better. Plus a lot of campgrounds you would have to have an extra large site to fit it all on. Once you unhook the tow bars they fold up to the MH and you are done. No manhandling a tow dolly somewhere.

Yes it was a nuisance also the car being low I had to use all kinds of planks. Did some damage to my front end. Hated the Dollie!!!
