Wow, shocked that Ram is in 3rd place.
And the imports killed it with one model vs 3 models in the big three.

As with any statistic, there's a few ways to look at this list. I look at it this way...

GM makes 4 of the 11 trucks in this list. Their total for the 4 trucks is 987,471. About as far ahead of Ford as Ford is to just the Sierra/Silverado models alone. The others, especially the imports, are far behind. The Tacoma sells well because it's the cheapest truck you can buy. Does anyone think they sell more Tacoma's because they're a better truck than the Sierra, Colorado or Canyon? Nope, it's because you can buy two or three Tacoma's for the price of one of those trucks. Simple as that, it's the low price leader. The Titans/Frontiers/Tundras are just expensive cheap trucks. And the Honda isn't even a truck, it's just a Pilot with the back cut off. lol.

I've worked on a lot of trucks. I'll take a GM truck any day. Any size. Pretty much any engine and any transmission.

But you are combining all four GM models. If you just include the two full-sized models that compete directly against Ford...

Hey, it's a GM tech--did not mean to start another brand war. By the way, best % gain was by Tundra....and could use a definition of 'cheap' relating to Tacoma.

"F" series, maybe someone can tell exactly what that includes???

Why are Chevrolet and GMC separated???

Here is one answer. Not sure where the F550 went to?

To note, Ford F-Series sales figures are comprised of the following vehicles:

F-150 family, including the F-150 Raptor
F-Series Super Duty family, including the F-250, F-350 and F-450
The figures do not include Ford Heavy trucks sales results such as the F-650 or F-750.

Ron,
I believe the F-series would be every 150 thru 450 LD pickup; assume Ram #s include all 1500-3500. I do not think c/c are in these numbers, not sure. However, if the c/c ARE included, it is for both brands...does FCA still make a Dakota?
Chevy and GMC have always been separated in sales numbers, why, no clue.
Also, Ford and Ram are now going to report every quarter, as GM had done for some time. No more monthly numbers.
Joe

Lol, no I didn't want to start a brand war either.

I'm was just trying to say that the numbers really are pretty much the same as they've been for a long time. Middle America buys a ton of Ford trucks. GM makes some really good trucks but cater a little more towards the people that like the heated steering wheels and all that fancy stuff (like me). I know how much gravel you can throw in a Ford vs. a GM truck, but if that's not how you use a truck it doesn't matter.

And Dodge and the imports are still a little lagging behind in overall sales numbers like you would expect. IMHO anyone that thinks the best optioned, strongest powered and most well built import truck compares to something like a GMC Denali hasn't really used or driven both.

This is why Tacoma's sell like they do...

https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/new/nl...ting=224817834

Buy one a year old or with big incentives and you can buy a brand new truck for UNDER $20k! They're the low price leader and that's what they do better than anyone else. Who on earth would pay $58k for a Tacoma??? Yikes.

I am not trying to start a brand war but just my observation. Ford will crush it next year as the Ranger has been introduced back into the line up. And on a side note, glad to hear that Ford is bringing back the Bronco also. Still LOVE my Ram and would not have bought a different truck.

Please by the Sierra with the fancy CarbonPro box! It's the last project I worked on for GM R&D before retirement!

I recall seeing new Dodge, er Ram, pickups advertised at $19999 somewhere recently, maybe not.

petefoss,
Have not kept up with GM developments, that sounds really neat. Will be waiting to see reports from new owners.

A cousin recently purchased a Chevy 1/2 ton. He wanted a Ford F-150 but Chevy was significantly cheaper. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with lower-price items, particularly when they offer greater value.

Total F-Series sales are just over 1 million. Key is how much profit Ford makes from F-Series.

So what do you think of that new GMC tailgate?

Well, first thing, I was wondering where is Howie Long to talk about the 'old man step' on the Fords...GM spent a lot of ad time/$$ guffawing the Ford step, now they have one.
Have seen one in person, it should work just fine. Someone else mentioned you best not have a trailer hitch on whenever you open it.

The new GM tailgate looks awesome to me as long as it holds up (durability wise), and doesn’t add too much weight or cost. Just seen videos, but it appears very practical. Not only the step, but also the table feature and cargo support for longer items.

My Missus took one look at it, and said: "How long do you thing THAT thing will work; once it gets some road grime sucked up into it's innards?"
