Cummins, I have to ask.... If you are at your axle rating of 16,000 pounds, that leaves you with a 7,000 pound pin weight. Is that what you have???

His gross is 21000--his PW is near 5000--thus near the 16000 axle rating...
Can't see how to put a 3rd axle under one already made, but if anyone can do it, he can.

Wingnut, he said his RV weight was 23K in the post before mine, not 21K. That would make a 7K pin weight.

Actually 17,500 is on the axles and about 5,500 pin. With the MorRyde I am not concerned about the weight and I am still under the tire capacity. I just figure If I am going to do the 2" riser I may as well do the extra axle. Should be better braking also.

The DRV numbers are really BOGUS! My tag says 18,0XX from the factory dry weight. Then Rolling Retreats added the 6500 LP gen and we added our STUFF. I am really questioning the 18K number. I sure wished I would have weighed it before doing anything and subtracted the gen weight to see if they were even close.

So with 18K plus the gen weight that I would think is about 600# at the most how do I end up adding 4,400#??? There is no way!

Was working off the factory wt ticket in an earlier post--so this 39TKSB3 weighs in at 23000?? as it sits? 17500+5500=23000 don't it?
Must have a LOT of bowling balls or fishing weights...

Yes I am at 23K. Like I said I think the 18K from the factory is a bogus number! Then what is funny is my kingpin is rated at 21K so if I towed a 3K trailer with the RV empty (that my hitch is rated for) I would be at the 21K rating without even adding anything to the RV.

Question are the MorRyde kingpins with the fore aft isolated rated for 23K?

I'm in the same boat. Never got a dry weight due to moving right in, but I'm certain that the shipping weight we were given is bogus.

But I'm sure glad my bike rack holder has a 3000 pound towing capacity! (Since there is no way we could use it for towing.)

[QUOTE=Cummins12V98;20848]Has anyone that has a 39TKSB3 added a third MorRyde IS axle or do you already have a third axle? I am at the top end of the axle ratings but a bit below the tire ratings. I am going to be adding the 2" riser to mine and thought it would be the perfect time to add another axle. I am running about 23K RV weight.[/QUOTE

With respect to the 2" riser on the fifth wheel, could you tell me how tall your Dodge measures at the tailgate,at the front of the bed? My ford measures 56" at the tail gate and 54" at the front if the bed. I was told not to order the riser.

Other than 2" in height, there's no downside that I can see in ordering the riser. Our MS has the 2" riser, and we tow with a 4x2 truck, significantly lower than the 4x4 2011 Ram. Here's how our setup looks:

From what I have read the Fords sit lower then the RAM and GM trucks and the riser may not be needed. "BUT" if you think about re sale and the fact Ford is coming out with a completely new truck for 2017 and I will wager it will sit higher I would get the riser no matter!!!

My truck sits at 54" with the 5,500# pin weight added. I do have the rear air ride and the truck does not drop like the non air ride trucks do.

Don't know front of bed dim and it really does not matter since the bottom side of the RV slopes up towards the front cap. The closest your RV will get to the truck is at the tailgate.

I have only towed our trailer with a 2" riser with my F350 once but everything looked normal and we had a good bed clearance to the bottom of the cap. The only downside to the riser is raising the height of the trailer. Others that have ordered a newer DRV have been told to not get the 2" riser and later wished they had....

I added a Mor/Ryde IS third axle to my 38TKSB3. I have 18,800 lbs on the axles and 3640 on the pin.

Where did you have the work done and what did they charge you?

Interesting you have such a light pin weight.

Wow! This is the first DRV I have heard of that has an added axle after purchase! How much did that cost you?

Notice that he added the 3rd axle because of the motorcycle lift on the back. Maybe that pin weight is due to the cantilever effect with the bike on the carrier.

Aren't most triple-axle designed to take weight off the pin and onto the axles?
Rusty, you being an engineer might explain that better...
Sure looks like there was a lot of work put into that setup.

I had wanted DRV to install the third axle when the MS was being built but Kyle Miller wouldn't OK it. He did allow the frame to be beefed up to support the motorcycle lift.

I talked to Andrew at Mor/Ryde but he told me that they couldn't do it. That was BS on his part. Talking with Gary Wheeler at Mor/ryde a year later to order the axle and he said they could easily do it and would add the third one for me but since I was in RI at the time I opted to have my local garage do the work. Gary had no problem with that but was concerned that I have the alignment correct.

The wheel wells need to be cut for new fender flares and the rear jacks need to be moved back about 2 feet.

As for total cost I can only give a guess since I can't find all the invoices I had for the job.

Two wheels and tires from Trailer Tires and Wheels in Ohio shipped to RI $1360.

Labor to install axle $747

Miscellaneous parts for the install including brake lines, hydraulic hoses and fittings, etc. $588

Axle from Mor/ryde with disc brakes in the neighborhood of $1500, I think less than $2000. No invoice on this. Check with Gary at Mor/Ryde.

The wheel well or fender flares. From DRV. About $160 and almost as much to ship since they are over length at about 8 feet long. I cut the wheel well myself with electric tin snips.

Mounting brackets from Lippert for the rear jacks. I don't remember the cost. The old brackets can probably be reused if they are cut off properly.

If DRV had been willing to install the axle the cost would have been a lot less so they kind of ticked me off on that since they make models with three axles all the time.

How was the location of the third axle determined? Were the original two moved or just the third one added in front?

Haha!! We understand sir. Report back your weight after you move in if you could. There is no way I have 5,000+ pounds of stuff in my trailer.
