50A Autoformer Mod

I transferred this Hughes Autoformer from my last DRV to current 2016 39TKSB3 with cord reel.

I remove the junction box completely. Add a male cord cap to the end of the romex that was removed from the junction box that will plug into the back of the auto former. Add a female end to the cord that comes from the reel and plug into the male end of the auto former. I used 1/2" "L" metal screwed down on the right side of the AF to keep it in place and in front to keep it pushed back tight to the frame and male connector.

Great addition, keeps the voltage at manageable levels.

Stay seated when looking up the cost of a 50A Autoformer!!!

Just bought one!! The cheapest place I found was at Tweetys.com. I had Campingworld price match it to get it now. This is where it lives right now. It will be kicking in more in the next day or so once this CH fills up.

That's the one I just bought from Tweety's. Installed last week and it immediately started working. Had been at 106 to 107 volts. Was able to run both ACs us I fired up microwave just for fun.

I would love to take credit for thinking about it, but it comes with it and with a meter that plugs into a 110 plug and displays the voltage as well as a night light. Do those two things justify the price we emailed about? LOL

You managed to get this in the reel compartment?

I’m on my second autoformer, I’m still not sure it works as I think it should.

I used to keep my first autoformer real close to the rear jack, sometime on the plate itself if raining.

I can tell you the Hughes AF is no match for hydraulic retract of the jacks.

In my haste one night loading up during the beginnings of a storm, I crushed mine.

The AutoFormer fit easily with the powered reel.

Well that explains why you are on your second one. I just bought a round bucket for the autoformer. I will also be using a heavy duty chain. I will post a pic once I am set up.

How do you think it is supposed to work? Mine again is boosting both legs. Shocked I went so long to buy one.

Probably will, but to busy right now visiting family for the next couple of weeks. I had everything but the round tote. So $7 is just an insurance policy.

As I do with all upgrade, improvement, and information posts, I read this thread with interest. However, I must ask, what is the specific purpose of an AF?

Read about it on their site. It keeps voltage at a more usable level to avoid damage to components.
