Air bags
Just ordered our mobile suites 38rssa. We have a 2016 f350 dually(4:30) and looking for input on air bags. Dealer here suggests Firestone with airlift wireless control. I assume I need the air bags but how about the remote control air?

The air bags are useful to level the truck out when towing which prevents a lot of headlight flashing at you when towing at night. They also increase the spring rate at the rear which helps prevent bottoming out of the truck's rear suspension on harsh bumps. They do NOT change the truck's GAWR or GVWR ratings.
I have the Firestone Ride Rite air bags which I prefer for the Ram since the bag mounts used are sturdier than some of the other. The wireless remote with on-board air is a nice-to-have but not essential - I just have a Schrader valve next to the rear license plate where I can air the bags up as I'm airing up the air bag in the TrailAir hitch.

I did the same thing as Rusty. We will only be moving every two or three months, so as nice as an automatic system would be, I didn't feel it was necessary. I think it was maybe $300 for the kit. Something like that.
I ran my air fittings so that they are actually used to hold my license plate. I thought this was pretty clever until my wife told me she almost started pulling them off cause she thought the plastic valve-stem-remover/caps were ugly. That would have been a surprise for her when an airline came out with it.

I am leaning toward just the air bags for now. Thanks Bill

The nice feature of the wireless control is that it will keep the air bags at the pressure you want them and it will also keep at least 5 lbs. of pressure in them to avoid running them empty. If there is a small leak it will automatically bring the pressure back up. Also nice to hit a button and have them fill to a pre-determined pressure.
I agree with the dealer that the Firestone air bags but the AirLift remote is a good combo. I had the Firestone remote and now have Airlift.
It's not cheap but for me it's a good way to go.

We have the AirLift bags and the AirLift wireless remote. One other benefit of the remote is the ability to experiment with ride "on the fly".

The on-board air and wireless remote is quite nice, I'm sure, and I might consider adding it later. As I stated in response to the OP's question, though, it is not essential for a basic air bag installation. The downside is that it is one more thing to go wrong...

This has the built in factory rear air ride. Keeps the same stance up to mars rear axle rating. Around 5,500# pin in pic.

That would be pretty nice. Remotely deflating them to 5psi when unhooking would be cool too.
Hmmmmmmmmm

How much does the factory air cost on your Fiat and does it allow driver input or adjustments? Are you able to dump the air to lower the bed if desired? It seems like a good option if the price is reasonable.
