Arrow Awnings

My awnings leak at the seem where the metal guard meets the fabric. And when roled up and it rains, water gets into the awning. When I open it up after a rain, stored away dry, water runs down the awning. Is this normal?

Also when putting up one of my awnings the re is a vibration sound and feeling once it passes the halfway point from closing. Is this normal?

Thanks, I'm just trying to figure out if I have a problem.

I have felt and heard the vibration sound on every power awning that has been on every coach that we have owned. I find that silicone spray wiped on the shaft will work to eliminate the vibration for a period of time. I am hesitant to use WD-40 as it is hard on rubber. And I am not sure that there is no rubber parts in the piston system.

I agree the silicone spray will help a little with the vibration. My awning does get water in it when it rains and runs out when I open it. I don't know what you could do about it.

I don't have a metal cover on mine.... it's a standard one.... but it too gets wet like that.

It's really a potentially nasty thing I think but as Eagle Eye said, I don't know what you can do about it.
If you suspect it leaks at the seam where the metal guard attaches, I would get some tent seam sealer to try......

I do notice some staining on the awning over time.... but so far I clean it every now and then, not nearly as often as I though I'd have to .... and haven't had any serious mold problems..... (knock on wood)

You should be staying where the sun shines all the time!

I am. It rains for less then an hour every couple of days. Plus it is 10-15 degrees cooler here then 30 minutes away.

Have any of you had any problem with one of your awnings sticking? Not sure how to fix it, But right now I go out and pull on the metal casing while my wife pushes the button...

My awning sticks on the casing on the side near the door. When I push the button to open the awning I just reach out and pull it a little if it doesn't open. I also have to reach out and pull the casing toward the door a little to get it to close right.

I was at a rally a few years back and they had a seminar by Dometic on care of their products. One of the things they covered was cleaning the awning. They recommended a diluted mixture of chlorine bleach and water (1 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water). Put it in a spray bottle and spray the top of the awning. Roll up the awning. At this point the top of the awning is touching the bottom and the dilution is spread out over the surface. After 15 minutes open it up and brush and then spray clean. People were concerned about the bleach harming the fabric but they stated at this concentration and for the 15 minutes it would not harm it. We have used this method since and it works great. We opened one awning after it was stored all winter and there was a great deal of mold / staining on the white awning. After using this method it cleaned up like new. Works better for us then any RV awning cleaner we have tried.

awnings

I have a 2016 ACE 30.2 and I'm not sure if/how you can tilt the extended power awning for water runoff.

Any advice appreciated.

Not sure if your awning is the same as mine but at the bottom on each side is a hinged arm that you can pull down on the center. That lowers the side. When done you simply push it back up so it is straight. My only concern is that at some point the hinge joint will loosen up and won't stay straight.

Mine has what I would describe as a brace arm, that is adjustable in length, with a thumb screw knob to tighten. You can see it once the awning is extended.

Sorry, don't have a picture handy.

Be sure to loosen this knob before retracting the awning.

Your awning is probably an A&E awning made by Dometic. Mine is Lippert Solera awning.

Regarding awnings

Dometic had a recall on improperly installed awning motors last year and Thor announced two recalls on Carefree awnings earlier this year.

Awnings

Got around to checking a little deeper on tilting the power awning for water runoff.

I have a Carefree Travel'r adjustable pitch awing, 19ft.

Manual says you can adjust the pitch up to 3 positions different from left to right and retract normally. Doesn't work for awnings 12' or shorter.

May try dropping one side a couple of notches, and see how it works.

Get a garden sprayer add 1 cup of bleach 2 gallons of water...Spray the awning let it set 1/2 hour and hose it off...Mold and stains disappear..
