The ladder on Vegas handles me (238) fine. I put a towel under my knees for traction when cleaning or working on roof. Car wash soap works fine.

I always appreciate the knowledge and advice from such a learned group.
Your help would be appreciated.

Note: In the past I have used an extension ladder with padding on the end and go up from the side.

Got'er done. The extension ladder with the padded outriggers worked just fine. It just as much work washing the trailer getting the streaks off the side.
Once a year -- that's it. No more.

Climbing up to the roof
I will not use the ladder fastened to the rear of my RV. It may be strong enough for me, but it sure appears flimsy. I use the rear ladder for show only.
I use a collapsable ladder rated at 400 lbs with pads where it contacts the side of the roof. My wife holds the ladder firmly so it doesn't move. The ladder, after folding & collapsing fits in the front storage area. I bought it in Home Depot.

When at home base I use an extension ladder with outriggers for safety. The outriggers have rubber tips that don't damage the TPO. When on the road I use the attached ladder, but try not to use it too often as it is not sturdy enough in my opinion.

Being disabled, I can't use ladders, but even if I wasn't, I wouldn't use the straight up rear ladder. It's also too far off the ground so an additional step or 2 is needed just to get to the lower rung. I purchased a light weight, aluminum, 16 ft extension ladder from Lowe's. Very light weight, and after cutting a few inches off of each extension, it fits perfectly in the slide tray in the belly. 'For us/my wife', we feel it's much safer, more steady, and more acceptable than the straight up rear ladder.

Now that I have our new rig I am pleasantly surprised as to how sturdy the rear ladder is compared to our previous rig and other trialers I have looked at.
Maybe it is sturdier then before because it is no longer removable.

Glad to hear that they're making them better!
Now: they can work on improving the rest of the rig!

ladder
I took the installed ladder off years ago, for a number of reasons. its flimsy at best for anyone over 200 lbs. It is located at the back, far away from AC, vents, TV ant or anything else you may want to get to. I use on of those ladders that is both a long ladder and folds into a step ladder. useful for all things on the roof, and of course, can be used elsewhere too. This way, I put it up where I need it. It sits on the back bumper when I travel.
if you watch RVs go by one the highway, the one thing most often tied to the RV ladder is another ;ladder`

roof and ladder
I use no ladders at all. I just standby for the call from the mother in law and when she arrives I get her to pass by slow on her broom , get on it and have her hover over the Axis and at that time I just slide off on the roof.
When she decides to go home I get her to take a slow fly by , hover and back on I go. She takes me on a short fly and I get off on the lawn. Always good to have a dear mother in law that knows how to handle her broom.
I have the best mother in law in the world!
