Next time you caulk give this a try. Try it on something else first to get the hang of it.
Warm the tube it HOT water, apply a nice tight bead, spray over caulked joint with windex. Now wipe off excess with your finger.

If you want to get the caulk to do it's best job of sticking to yir TV: there shouldn't be any wax within spitting distance of it...

I really doubt it. But if that's a concern simply mix some liquid detergent with water or some car wash with some water in a spray bottle.
All you are doing is creating a slippery surface so the caulking won't stick to it.
Countertop to backsplash etc this method works well.
Trick is to apply an even as possible bead.
All I can say is practice on something!!!

Back in the boatbuilding days, we worked with 3M and their sealants, caulkings, etc. They had a tech/rep that "Taught" us how to apply a perfect bead. Cut the tip to your desired angle, 30-45* works best. Squeeze the trigger to bring the material to the tip. Set the tip on the joint at the angle you trimmed it at. Squeeze the trigger and PUSH the tube down the seam. Pushing the material while squeezing the material out should leave an application that doesn't have to be tooled. By pushing you're forcing the material into the joint.
This method takes time to learn because different materials flow at different speeds, the trigger speed, how fast you move, etc.
I have seen a mess, and I have seen 200ft of rub rail caulked in a single application without stopping.

Yep that's the way to go. I did my front and rear caps with 6" eternabond and will do the sky light, vents etc. after the holidays.

I did about 18 inches. The rest needed smoothing. Maybe next time I can do 24 inches??

I like a pneumatic gun. Set flow rate with the air regulator and you get a nice even flow without the bumps when resetting the pump trigger.

The reason I like the one mentioned is I keep the release depressed and control the flow with my fingers, no "bumps".
I can honestly say I have caulked THOUSANDS of yards in my career, by doing so you get the "FEEL" of the caulk use and can do a NICE job.
Production caulking I would consider the air unit but for the smaller areas that would a no go.

It's pretty smooth in speed. Batteries last a decent amount of time. We had several air powered guns in the shop, but most of what we used was manual.
