Doesn't look like much of a retention system!

Dexter installed 8 new clips this morning that were overnighted from the engineering division.

They will also be changing clips on two other rigs here with similar problems.

Dexter is a stand up Company. How about the damage to your wheel?

The Hispec wheels on our trailers ……,
There are two wheel failures at the rally here in Sevierville.

Dexter reps saw them as well. We discussed the lack of warranty that would probably be in place with my one wheel.

I was assured it would be covered and although it is not in writing - as you said, Dexter is a stand up company.

FYI, two different brake hose replacements are now in play.

Busy week and I can’t find the link at the moment, but someone told me the current listed brake pad for the 9K Kodiak’s is not exactly correct.

Well it happened to us! On our way back from the rally in Sevierville, about 50 miles south of Lexington KY we had a blow out! Once I removed the wheel I discovered the SAME issue Porthole is having! The retainer clips bent and the caliper shifted forward and coming into contact with the wheel!

I ended up using clips that Randy from Dexter (at the rally) gave me 'just in case", glad I had them! Thanks randy!!!

Here's a couple of pics of my tire. We were lucky in that the tire blew to the inside towards the frame instead of outward, we had no damage to the RV!

I'm going to call Goodyear and try and file a claim later today.

The new brakes were installed along with repacking the bearings and replacing the oil seals. No cracks or defects were evident on the flexible brake hose flairs so they were reused. Bleeding the brakes uncovered a crack/flaw in one of the caliper casings. Kodiak sent a replacement and installation was completed. After doing the brake break-in (burnishing) the brakes seemed to be more effective then the original. A final check showed no leaks, no bent clips (yet), and there is brake drag (wheels freely turn).
A quick update.

Returned from trip to Florida – approximate 900 miles, 20 rest area/fuel stops with several freeway slows down, but no panic braking. The brakes worked fine, there is no indication of clip bending, and the wheels turn freely (no brake drag).

We’ll see what happens in this summer when I have 2000 miles round trip planned. From the other posts it just might be an adventure with bent clips.

Dan call GY and ask for your regional rep's # and explain to him with a pic what happened. He will have more control of how bad you get dinged on a prorated tire.

Most likely he will tell you to go to a GY "OWNED" tire store. I have done this Rodeo.

Post clip version #3 installation travel day.

I put my gain back up to 8/8.5
We left Sevierville heading east across the upper side of the Smoky's so some hills, then down I-40 which is hilly and the long 6.5% grade down towards Asheville.

At rest stop breaks for the dog I lifted the trailer and checked the brakes, spun freely (mostly) and no caliper pops. That was 570 miles, followed a few days later by another 220 miles.

Seems to be no problems with a spin test but I have not physically looked at them yet, maybe they got the magic spring rate now.

I have two tires that look like they have belt shifts.

Getting goodyear to actually give you the location of a goodyear owned corporate store is a challenge.

I posted pictures on facebunk, but - version 2 brake hose physically looks like a better product with thicker tubing and a thicker machined flare.

Version 3 is a straight caliper end the uses a 90 degree fitting on the caliper.

One of our DRV owners recently had MOR/ryde 9K IS installed and MOR/ryde used the new caliper 90 degree fittings along with the old 90 degree end brake hose

Ask for the number of the area rep.

This is very common where the center three ribs get taller than the outer two. Best replace at this point as the next step is the belts coming off.

My rep in CA and AZ got me the best price for the pro rated use. Usually a place that sells Truck Tires is GY owned.

Get the area rep's number !!!

Update (final?)

After another 1900 miles (2800 miles total) the caliper clips on the front axle showed slight bending (~20 mils clearance vs ~5 mils when installed) and they were slightly bowed. The rear axle clips were still tight. Instead of waiting for major clip bending, Kodiak sent me the new hardened clips. I have replaced all clips with the new ones (yellow color with H stamp). The caliper to clip clearance is looser than the originals (~15 20 mils) but if they don’t bend I have no problem with that. I now have 900 miles on the new clips and all is good. Hopefully this brake issue is put to rest.

DRV issued a Safety Recall 21v733 11/11/2021 for Mobile & Elite Suites 2018-2021 to have the original clips replaced with the new hardened clips.

I would contact DRV, was there contact info on your recall? You could try calling Dexter for a shop location to help you out. I know MORryde in Goshen IN is replacing g them.

Recall says you need to contact your dealer to setup up an appointment ...
Also this

"If you have questions concerning this recall or if you need any assistance please contact the Warranty/Service Department by phone at 260-562-3500. If you had appropriate repairs completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, and if you incurred any direct cost in connection with obtaining such repair, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement from DRV by contacting the DRV Warranty/Service Department."
