What are you saying Porthole? The version Dexter came out with 2 years ago is now "obsolete"? Are you having clip trouble again?

I checked mine a couple of months ago and all looked good. I'm going to take a look at my clips again in the next couple of days.

Dan

Are you referring to the ‘overnighted’ clips installed at the Sevierville Rally?
At least 2 versions since then, not including the newest parts coming out.

And yes, I still have clips failing.

The good news is the Alcoa rims are made different than the factory wheels, so there is less damage when the caliper pops out.

I’ve seen wrenches for these caps on eBay, along with aluminum caps ($$$)

I was doing Dodge dealership time when Chrysler put the Mitsubishi diesels in the pickups. Low HP and ‘mostly’ problem free.

Then the first version of the Cummins came out. They had some issues as well.
One major repair we had during the winters was the after effects of an owner spraying ether in the intake. Ether + heated manifold = ka-boom.

Duane,

I put the clips on that Randy gave us at the rally shortly after the rally. A couple of months later I went to MORryde for an alignment. The techs there INSISTED on replacing ALL the clips even after I explained to Gary Wheeler I had "new" clips from Randy (Dexter)! Gary said they had instructions to upgrade ALL 9k units coming through their shop for whatever reason, not to chance the "old" clips. BTW, the also replaced ALL of my (flexible) brake lines too!

I just checked my clips before this trip to AZ and they all looked good. I haven't yet but before we leave Mesa I will give them another look see. I have another set (8) of "good" clips with me if any of mine are bad/bent.

I was not aware of any "new and improved" clips failing, thanks for the heads up!

Dan

The clips that were put on at the rally bent sometime after.

I had stopped at MOR/ryde for an alignment check (that they didn’t do correctly) and the the tech gave me a set of clips, I put those on to replace the bent rally clips.
They also bent.

I had the DRV recall clips, they also bent.

WOW!!! I’m still using the clips MORryde installed in 2021 at my appointment!

We went to the rally in Fort Collins and back last year with NO (clip) issues! We didn’t do too much traveling after Fort Collins, my wife broke her ankle right after the rally curtailing our travels.

I was at Moryde in October and no mention of new clips then (I had new springs installed).

Same issues here

Hi all, I’ve recently had the same issues on my 2018 DRV MS.

The back story: I’ve hauled this RV about 7,000 miles since buying it last spring. To correct conditions existing when purchased it I replaced the tires, brake pads, wheel bearings, brake pad clips (per the recall), two rubber shear springs and 4 shocks.

The front story: a few days go on a rough section of I-5 Northbound in California I had two flats on the same position within 5 miles. On closer inspection the brake caliper had jumped out of the rear retaining clip (photo 1), acted as a lathe on the wheel, and likely caused both flats. It’s possible the calipers dislodged during the mayhem ensuing during the flat experience.

Got that resolved by removing the caliper and plugging the brake line to continue the journey.

Checked the wheel behind the one with the flats and it’s caliper was just about out of the clips as well (photo 2). The two on the other side were still intact.

I have an email into DRV, but expect I’ll need to chat with Dexter.

I’m basically just saying that this issue ain’t fixed. Also have the classic brake drag issue.

Thus far what I’m hearing is we need to be inspecting the brake clips as we travel. I travel in mountainous areas the the Pacific Northwest.. lotsa steep hills and brake use.

Thanks to those on this thread for the information. I’ll keep y’all posted on what I discover.

John

I think the newest clips that just came out may have solved the clip bending issue.

Unfortunately there are other problems that have come up with our brakes.

The brakes on our trailer are a real problem child, and it’s getting old.

I’ll try and do a write up on it this weekend.

Your bent clips are in the right side only?

I am curious if anybody has the aftermarket part number for the brake pads on the 9K axel. Waiting for Porthole's other problems

I have yet find any source other than the Kodiak #.
DBC-2250-PAD
Any variations of the 2250 number all come back to a Kodiak part.
Unlike the 7 & 8K that used the standard GM pads.

Just her for the CLIPS........

We now have, approximately, 3200 miles on our DRV and are experiencing tire and brake issues. Upon a routine walk around, we noticed a separated tire on the rear drivers side. No Problem just drop the spare and quick change. 15 miles down the road, our tire monitor temp jumped rapidly on the passenger side rear tire and then the boom! Hit the exit ramp, just a few hundred yards, and started in on our troubles. Blown tire, bent rim, bent clip, loose caliper, broken off bleeder valve and caliper jammed into the rim so tight I had to remove the hub to get the wheel off. Upon reinstalling the hub I had to use the separated tire to limp it back, without brakes, 15 miles to Winslow AZ. Now waiting on parts overnighted from Rolling Retreats. Any advice?

Porthole - yes, our failures were on both right side brakes. Honestly, I’ve never checked them prior to our recent issues, other than when I replaced wheel bearings and added the clips DRV sent me last summer. I look every day now.

Saturday I saw a very disappointing Continental HTL EVO Plus tire.

Scalloped and cupped just like the Goodyears.
Same trailer also had calipers binding in the bracket caused by the clips, and one of the clips (yellow) was starting to bend.

First Continental blowout I have heard of. Possibly road hazard?

Not a blowout, just the scalloping and cupping we’ve seen on the Goodyears.

He also has them on the stock HiSpec wheels which I think are a bit narrower than the Alcoa’s and less than the recommended width (not sure on the spec).

Year and model of trailer?
Elite or Mobile?
Do you know the weight?
Did the caliper damage the wheel and cause the blowout?
