Ford F450 Tow Vehicle

Do any DRV MS owners use a Ford F450 to pull your unit. The unit we are looking at is 41RSSB4 at 22,000 lbs and about 4,000 lbs hitch weight. Kyle at DRV said a F350 would be ample but I want to be on the side of caution

Like the old saying goes, you can have too much trailer but you can never have too much truck....

I still have my F350 but I prefer to tow with a truck that has more capacity than a regular pickup in the brakes department. Having said that, there are a LOT of people that tow with 350/3500 class trucks but if it were me, I would prefer a F450 or better when the trailer weight gets that high.

My current tow vehicle is a Freightliner....

At least in the Ford line up. Ford kept trying to compare the Ram 3500 to the F450. My Ram 3500 is speced to tow 30k. Way more truck then my new 5ver weighing 22-23k loaded.

The RAM is SAE J2807 rated to tow a combined load of 37,900# with about 6K pin weight.

And the 1st US truck manufacture to adopt the SAE J2807 ratings.

The big problem I have with the J2807 ratings are with the stopping test. That test requires the truck/trailer combo to come to a full stop in 80 feet or less from a blazing 20 mph.....

Once.....

Sorry - just found this forum. We pull our 36RSSB with a 2009 F450. Not sure what year you're looking at, though. It's a great match for us given we've added a 50 gal Transferflow tank in the bed and our hitch weight is about 4,300 lbs. Like the truck's mirrors and turn radius. They can keep their diesel emissions crap. David

I've had three dually's and pulled some very heavy loads in my past!... Also being on the side of caution!...There isn't a 350,450,or 550 that can compare, or as safe as one of these!

I guarantee!!!... If you could hook up and test drive each one of the above, (Kyle also!) the class 6 or above would be a no brainer!... Hands down!

I tow 20k with a 5k pin with a 3500. I did install air bags but it was to improve ride and level truck. It does great. Plenty of power and 5ther brakes work great. I am not comfortable with it though. Going to get an HDT modified to tow a 5ther. I do not believe these super trucks will hold a rig this heavy and big if it gets squirrely. These units make our trucks look and feel small.

If I recall correctly the 41 is a tandom axle. You are going to have way more weight on the pin than 4000 lbs. I got my 39TKSB3 (21000lbs) weighed in Las Vegas at the rally. My pin was 4900 lbs and surprised me. It was with 15% in all three tanks and as we would drive it. We have since moved things around to distribute the weight. I will get it weighed again and if that heavy still I will look at the M2. I am pulling with a 2015 GMC Denali 3500 Dually.

I guarantee my 39TKSB3 will have a pin well over 5K. Our 36SB3 was north of 5K, I towed it with a 11HO RAM Dually and was rick solid in all weather and lane change conditions. I am sure the 15 RAM will handle the new MS with ease as well.

The 2015 F450 is a beast, it has the 6.7 with 860 ft lb of torque, 15in brakes, 19.5 G rated tires and the axel is a Dana S110 rated at 14700lbs, it will handle a any DRV.
