Question How fast?

HELLO DRV OWNERS.....

Just curious as to how fast you go when towing? I know there are times that you might speed up to get some momentum for a hill. But what speed do you like to travel at and why? I know that speed limits very. If the speed limit is 75, do you do that and more?

Personally I like to travel at 63mph. It seems to be a sweet spot for fuel mileage.

I agree with 63. That's what we towed out TTs at and that's the normal speed in the Motorhome. If not pulling a toad and in a hurry I may push the MH to 65 - 67.

No matter the limit, 62-63. I quit being in a hurry 15 years ago. 300-350 miles a day.

63 to 65 mph towing. Try to stick to about 250 miles per day and to not tow more that 2 days in a row before taking a day or two off.

We're on our way to Navarre Florida, most of the interstates we've traveled have been posted at 70 MPH. Most of the the way I've been doing just that. I did "hit" 75 a very little bit here and there but for the most part 70 is tops.

We're in Amite City LA tonight, I just figured out our fuel consumption/mileage since leaving SE Wisconsin, 8.2 MPG (average) so traveling at 70 MPH has "cost" us decent mileage. "Usually" I hold it to around 63 to 65 but I've been "antsy" to get into FL!

Yup between 60 and 65............around 275 miles a day. Maybe 325ish but not 2 days in a row.

We usually Cadallic along at 68-70 in a 70 or 70+ zone. Up to that, I run the speed limit. No difference in fuel economy in the big truck from 63 to 70. 11.5mpg over hill and dale and don't have to get a run at the hills.

Generally, 60 - 65 where allowed, otherwise about the speed limit.

65 mph and about 300 a day. My record is 500 because a ice storm chased us down I 25 from WY to NM, that was a long day!

I usually run at posted speeds unless in TX--too fast for comfort at 75-80...
As to distance, depends on where I start and where I need to be--have had some 600 mile days(nights) in past that just can't handle any more, but 400 isn't unusual nowadays.

Typically, I run about 65, up to 70 but not for sustained lengths of time. Not really concerned with mileage but my V10 gasser likes around 65 better and towing really doesn't matter. 350 miles is about a good average but since I'm used to traveling when I used to work, 500 miles is doable for me. It's all about your comfort zone, how rested you are, how many miles to put behind you, etc. But as you see, everyone is around the same ballpark for speed and miles driven.

Be safe!

Retired 18 years ago from almost 30 yrs. big west coast city fire dept. driving both trucks and engines. Was much younger then as compared to today but my rig compared to F.D. vehicles is much more squirrely. I feel safer and seems sweet spot for me is between 62&65 mph. As far as distance, I for me 350-400 miles is about perfect. Wife will relieve me occasionally for about an hour but that's about it for her AND me. She has a lead foot tendency and grew up learning to drive in So. CAL.

Apparently us motorhome owner's missed the "HELLO DRV OWNERS" salutation or the fact that this was posted in a DRV section of the forums here.. LOL

When we had our 5th wheel (a Keystone Cougar which was smaller and lighter than your DRV units) we would drive the same as we do now: Put the cruise control on about 1 or 2 mph lower than traffic and just relax in the right lane--up to about 75 mph; if traffic was moving faster than that we would stick to 70-75 or so.

Our Sportschassis is very happy at about 62 or 1600 rpm. Get passed a lot by folks towing 5th wheels larger than our with a pickup up doing 70+ especially here in Arizona and up in Wyoming. Just doesn't seem safe to me. JMHO

Like others, we drive at 60-62. We're retired, what's the rush. We follow the 2-2-2 plan most of the time. Travel 200 miles, stop by 2 and stay 2 days or 2 weeks. We volunteer as park hosts up to 6 months a year then travel for 6 months. We want to enjoy our travels and use the 2 lane highways versus the interstates.

California has a 55 limit no matter what you are towing. I tow at 60 in CA and other States with 55-60 limits at 1,750rpm in 6th. So let's say I am towing in a Freedom State like AZ I tow at 75, really don't care what my mileage is and I won't blow smoke saying i get any better than 8 doing so!!!

If I am towing at night the most I will tow is 70.

I am always amazed at all the inflated towing numbers!!! Especially when claiming 65-70 towing.

Still waiting for our DRV, but my current trailer is not far off then our next one spec wise, it is a toy hauler, so it is a wide body (101") heavy, my CAT weights have varied between 17K to 19K and I am running MOR/ryde IS, disc brakes and Goodyear G114's.

Truck is a 2011 F-350 DRW, my comfort speed for the truck seems to be the same as others, 62-64 mph. Occasionally I will drop it down to 53-55 or bump it up over 65, 70 being the max.
