@Walker @wingnut60 do you see these as exceptions or something more systemic? We’re within 30-45 days of making our decision WRT whether we go DRV or Riverstone. DRV will be pre-owned, Riverstone most likely new. Not hearing of any systemic issues from Riverstone owners but enough alarm bells from DRV owners to warrant further consideration. Rotting slide floors due to water intrusion is a concern.

That’s curing a symptom- not the illness. A boat is expected to have some water intrusion- that’s why they make bilge pumps. I don’t think using a plastic floor addresses the water intrusion issue adequately in an RV. The water shouldn’t be there in the first place.

I agree that it is fixing the effect instead of the problem. They are not going to wrap the wood in fiberglass like the do in boats. Termites would not go after plastic wood. Since you are looking at a used DRV, just tap the bottoms of the slides. The sound will change when you hit a soft spot.

This is a pic of my door slide, lower corner by the door. The vertical corner comes from the factory with little more than masking tape to seal the corner under the corner molding. The clean tape to the left is my floor corner sealed with Eternabond tape. The bare area will be sealed with EB tape that will seal the corner. This project is now done on the door slide. I removed the corner moldings, sealed with EB tape and reinstalled the corners using caulked SS screws. Then rechaulked the moldings. 4 more slides to go.

George, thanks for providing that photo and explanation.

I realize that oftentimes members of forums can be more critical of the trailer they own (I’m the same way WRT my Grand Design), but I’ve read enough consistent posts here to allow me to make my decision on my next RV.

I appreciated everyone’s feedback.

Just remember that posts on this forum make up only a minute number of DRV owners, and most who post are telling only of their problems.

rynosback= It is against the federal labor laws to charge back any employee for any mistake or damage they do while working. No ifs, ands or buts. You hire them, you are responsible for them.
I was in business with lots of employees for lots of years and learned lessons. Some painful.

It is systematic. I have an ongoing list of people that have had slide floors and roofs rot out within 1-4 years of purchase.
If I/we were to do it again, it would be different. We had our other brand unit totaled by insurance. To receive the replacement cost check our replacement RV had to be new and untitled of equal or greater value of our check. Because we were/are fulltime, we didn't have time to order thru a DRV dealer to make sure the unit was right, and we couldn't buy a used New Horizons, Teton, Travel Supreme, etc. So we bought off a dealer lot in Tampa that had the right floor plan, options, and available now.
Do your homework.

Not sure what field you were in. As a automotive tech you are not paid by the hour or salary. You got paid based upon the hours that your turned/billed.
Damage is a different thing, as chit happens. If a guys chooses to flat rate and cut corners to get paid more, it is on him. I got charged back when I had a comeback. Or I had to do the repair again at n/c. There would be some weeks that I would turn 80-90 hours in 40-45 hours of time. A defective part is a whole other story. But this perspective is from an automotive shop. From what I understand there is a shortage of workers, so letting go of a crap employee will put them behind schedule. I woundering if they train the guys on the line on how they want things done?

Don't know anything about automotive shops. But I do know the construction business and laws. If you don't like the quality or quantity of an employee's work your only recourse is to get rid of them. And make sure it's not for one of the protected reasons. Smells like a goat? Fire them. Smells like a goat for religious reasons? They are protected.

Went with the Riverstone 39FK

All, just to follow up on my original post, we went with the 2020 Riverstone 39FK. We took delivery of it last week.

Thanks to everyone who provided input to me on this.

Good move. If I could do it over I would do the same thing.

I would hope that DRV is watching these forums as they can see that because of some of the build issues, they are losing sales.

If they make them any faster, they will not sell any. I toured Airstream when we were at DRV for service. The production line moved much slower and There quality control seemed better. So this has NOTHING to do with Thor. As Thor owns Airstream.

DRV usually only makes 10 units a week, or around 500 a year. Not very fast compared to most. I think it's Jayco that brags about 60 per day, and it shows.

Late to the party but I have to agree we have a one year old one that we bought used (actually 1.5 year old) and the water leaks are unbelievable in our unit and the costumer service from the factory is non existent (ie no replies to emails or phone calls). I also can be included in the out of square slide group, I can not figure out how I missed it before we purchased it or the that the inspector did not notice it. This was not our first RV as we have had many.

There was a recent change in management at the service center.

Brandon Fish was/is the warranty manager and now also the service manager.
