Kodiak Brake Pads

A little while ago there was a thread about what are the best replacement brake pads for the Kodiak disc brakes on DRVs. It seems there are many possible replacement pads of varying price and quality. Someone (Cummins, I think?) had a suggestion about a good quality pad at a reasonable price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have a 2016 38RSSA with 8000 pound axles.

Don't know about the Kodiaks, but the Titans on my last 5er were a GM part number sold at any auto parts store.

He likes the EBC yellows. Can’t remember the part number right now.

This is what I have bound to be the best. NOT cheap, but worth the extra $$$. Next option is a good quality Semi Metallic pad for a mid 80's Buick Century HD.

Thanks Cummins for your advice. I found the thread where you posted this info before, and you said you also changed your bearings over to oil bath. Did you have a problem with the EZ-Lube bearings that were originally installed? I thought DRV used to have oil bath bearings but changed over to EZ-Lubes around 2015 because they were having trouble with the oil baths.

I had no issues with the EZ Lube. ONLY reason DRV had issues with the oil bath is inferior parts!

Quality parts like I mentioned along with these cap seals and oil bath is the way to go.

These should be used even if you have grease packed bearings. As the seal that came with the cap was CRAP and would break down after a year. I still have smaller and larger ones that I bought until the correct seal size was established.

Sad to say but most of the things like seals, bearings brake pads etc are Chinese Made.

I strongly recommend you go to Kodiak. You may have to replace more the pad. They will assist and ask you questions prior to ordering the correct pad.
I have own 3 DRVs. I have heard horrible stories on the road about disc pads.

The sad thing is, that's twice I've had to agree with cummins.

If we have ever received a wake up call it's now. We all need to quit buying by price!! And start buying everything we can made domestically. They have taken control of our food and medical supply without firing a shot. Rant over for now.

Bill I think we would enjoy setting around the camp fire enjoying our favorite beverage!

Kevin at Kodiak a few years ago said NOT to buy their pads if I wanted QUALITY!!!

Their pads coming apart have been responsible for many a RV fire, NO joke!

You can use the ones I listed for oil and grease but I advise getting the same size seal made by National or another US Made seal that's for grease if that's the route you are taking as they are much less $$$.

I have to say I am VERY impressed with the true oil bath seal I listed.

Do NOT use the regular grease seal for oil bath!!!

Any suggestions as to where to get the clear dust covers?

I don't believe in using brake dust cover. You want to ensure you get as much airflow to the brakes for cooling purposes.

I keep with aluminum wheels/rims and brake clean using Chemical Guys wheel cleaner. Awesome stuff. Check out the link and video

Now that I finally have more time to start this maint project and found some questions. Since I got the oil seals you suggested, and since grease is such a mess I figure I may as well try the oil bath way. I hope the parts you listed are for the 8K Morryde hubs w/kodiak disk brakes. I hand fit a seal onto the spindle and it seems to fit very tight as in will not turn freely. I admit at this point I did not put oil on them yet, just the lube they came with which is a bit tacky. What oil is suggested for the hubs? Thanks.

If and when I do this I have a couple bottles of Lucas hub oil for the project.
