Bearing dust cap seal / oring

I was doing my yearly torque and visual inspections and noticed one of the bearing cap seals was degrading. I called Moryde to find out the size of the seal or if I could buy a handful of them. The only thing that they could do was sell me a new cap as it comes with the seal. The closest matching seal I found to this was from Napa auto-parts. There part number is 727-2231, a 2 5/8 x 2 7/8 x 1/8 oring. I replaced the seal and torqued it to 19 foot pounds. If I find a perfect match I will edit this post with the information on the replacement.

Old seal on the left and new on the right.

A spare OE seal and the seal from Napa.

My receipt from Napa.

Mine looked like that when I took the caps off to grease a couple months ago. Last people to touch it was MORryde when they greased the bearings while doing the 3" lift. I need to give them a call to get mine replaced as they were VERY hard to get off, as in WAY over torqued!. 3 of 4 looked like this with one looking good!

Why wait? $4 at Napa will get you new ones. Why expose the bearings to more posiable moisture?

And I used my Rams lug nut wrench to pop the center caps off. It has a little 90 degree at the end of it.

When I found 3 of 4 of our caps cracked I called Kodiak and asked them about the problem. They too say they they were over torqued a MorRyde. They sent me 4 new caps and O rings and said just to tighten them as tight as I could by hand. That was almost 2 years ago and none have cracked or come loose with just hand tightening.

Moisture??? I try to stay out of those areas.

I snugged mine up and wrapped the outer edge with good black electrical tape.

I noticed a tipped brake pad when getting new tires so I will be going thru everything soon since I am at home base now.

As long as you have the clear caps they will not crack. DRV told me that the center caps are to be torqued to 18-20 ftlbs. So I set mine to 19 ftlbs.

Unfortunately all my caps were clear and had cracked where the threads meet the body of the cap.

That is an understatement.... it would take a lot to crack the clear caps.
