New F 450

Thinking about trading my 17 F 350 for either a 19 or 20 F450, any thoughts?

They both are rated the same 14k GVWR.

Insurance and licensing may be more depending on your jurisdiction.

Your DRV is well within the ratings of your current 350. Is the truck lacking in some way?

Love my F450

You just cannot beat the turning radius of the F450. It is great. I love mine.

I understand that the 2020 F350 (dually) and F450’s are a couple inches lower than the 2017-19’s.

2020 lower

Everything I have read is that the rear of the F450 is 1" lower. Lower is always better, however, my 2017 F450 has not presented any real problems. I did have 3" risers installed at Mor Ryde which probably did help a little.

Enjoy your F450. They are great trucks. You need to test drive one and check out the short turning radius.

Love mine.

Don

I’ve been on the Ford forums, and as far as I can tell they dropped the rear height on everything but the F 450, which remained the same.

F450 4 x 2

For 2020 you can order a 4 X 2 in a F450. That is a lower truck all the way around. I am sure it will get better mileage as well.

Yea but resale value wouldn’t be as high on a 4x2.

And probably ride better as well.

Only trade in value, resale - someone looking for a 2WD will pay what it is worth. Not everyone wants or needs 4WD.

That said, I’ve used either by choice or necessity 4WD enough times towing that I would order 4WD based on use and not resale, especially with the standard tires on the 450.

I would say not, but you do not have to pay for the $3k plus option for 4x4. Plus you do not need to maintain a transfer case and a front axle. Because most full timers search for 70 degrees weather, is there a real need for it?

I have a Ram 4x2. I do not think it rides any differently then a 4x4. I think the ground clearance is a little more in a 4x4 bs a 4x2.

UH, I thought you said mine rode great?

When your wife calls and says the GPS took her the wrong was and she is stick the 4x4 option is worth EVERY $$$.

cut...
Did you actually mean GCWR? Just asking because 4x4's usually have less GCWR (trailering weight) due to the added weight of the front axle and transfer case.

Is anybody using a 17+ f 450 and only have the 2” risers on their DRV?

Weight the truck can have on it's tires "GVWR" is 14k on modern 350, 450, 3500 DRW trucks. 2wd or 4wd.

Trailer weight is a towing number.

GCVWR is the weight of truck and towed combined.

The newer generation of 350/450's ride higher and NEED the risers to have RV ride level or near so.

It does, but I do not lower my air pressures and do not have the rear air ride. Your truck for a 3500 rides GREAT!

I have a '17 450 and was towing a '15 38RSSA without the risers, and with a Retrax bed cover. After having contact with the cover rails (not the bed rail itself) I cut the flanges off the side plates on both sides and had no real problem after that. IF I backed up sharply off-level, it would come very close to hitting the cover rails. It towed about 1" nose-high.

I thought cutting those flanges off was a no-no? After hitting my head on the sharp edge punching a hole in my head I wanted to remove the whole thing!! A little off topic.
