New tire
Parking this monster in a VERY tight spot, I got both passenger tires on, over, and off the patio slab; ~6 inches thick. Luckily, no contact with rams, wheels, or under carriage. Today, I noticed a strip of rubber tread hanging out of the middle tread of the front tire. Needless to say, I’ll be replacing both passenger side tires. My plan, and please comment any advice:
I’ll pull the rear driver’s side to replace the front passenger side. I’ll take the ‘never used’ spare and install at the rear driver’s side. Now, the speculation. I have to buy a new tire, and would prefer the Michelin XTA, 18 plies. Can I mount that on one side of the axle, and the new Goodyear on the other? I believe the GY is 16 ply. Any comments?

Answering my own question, I just noticed the difference in diameter, width, and diminished speed rating. I’ll stick with the GY.

clev,
Would be watching the other 3 tires very closely. And, if me, would be putting 4 new on the ground and keeping the original spare as the spare.

Thanks wing, but the tires are in really good shape with lots of tread. I damaged the passenger side, but the driver’s side has no damage. I’ll do a good inspection when I pull the rear driver’s side.

Your call, of course. In my case, had 2 of 4 with tread separations. Keep a very close watch on the other side 2 tires for uneven rib levels and cupping on outer ribs. Seems to be too many instances of problems with the G-114s, but maybe that is because they sell so many of them. I have had sets of Michelin XTAs and GY G-114s--pretty much the highest price tires you can get--and both sets had tread separations. This tends to bias one's thoughts against them...

I contacted Southwest Tire in Houston, and they are coming out tomorrow (30 May) to provide mobile service. I’m following wings advice about leaving the spare, and buying 2 new tires. SWT will move the rear driver’s to the front passenger, and mount the two new one’s on the rear axle. Total cost will be less than $900. They will also send the damaged tires to GY to evaluate for warranty; I am not expectant.

How bout a pic of the bad tire.
GY is actually VERY good about taking care of people when it's NOT a road hazard.

clev,
As Cummins said, GY has good rep for backing up the tires. Just need to be sure and follow the rules--there is a GY dept that handles all this. Ought to be in your favor you are going back with GYs. SWT ought to have the forms, if not, Cummins may know how to get them.

The GY dealer will send the tire to GY for inspection. Ask the dealer for the case number so you can follow up with GY.

Here's a 'not so good' picture of the damage, and I don't think that I did that rolling over a concrete slab. The rear tire has no damage. Regardless, I replaced both. If you need tire help, Southwest Tire in Houston treated me fairly and professionally. Total bill for two new G114, removing, breaking down, mounting two tires and installing balancing beads, installing two, switch one, torque to 150 and air to 100 was $860. Normal, I could not have bought 2 new tires for that amount. The only issue was the tech wanted to air gun my lug nuts. He said 3 tightens would do it. I asked about a torque wrench and he didn't have one. I smiled, and said, "I Do". I called the office, and he said most emergency highway repairs just wanted to get on the road in a hurry and didn't worry about it. I said ok, but some of us do. Anyway, I'm a happy camper.

I would check wight inflation chart to see if 100# is enough air based on you actual load. Add 5psi to what the chart says.
Not sure why you replaced the rear tire. Tire in pic looks like RoadHazard. Very unlikely GY will help out.

Hi cummins; I’ve been in the habit of replacing both tires on an axle; may not need to, but the habit has worked for me. My trailer weighs ~18,300 with about 3800 pin. That leaves ~14,500 on the 4 tires; or about 3600 each, some are less than that. According to the inflation chart, 100 psi is good for 4020 pounds.

Why do you add 5 lbs to what the chart says? Just curious. I would only do that in the fall going into colder weather. Seems like the tire company would mean what they say in the chart.... but then I check my tires continuously with TPMS and with a good digital gauge if there is any question.

That is what GY Tech Support recommends. Take the weight of the heaviest tire on each axle and inflate each axle to the heaviest tires load.

You should be fine just replacing one at a time if needed. I replaced one after 3 years of traveling.
