Arrow Portable Air Compressor

I was going to buy a Kobalt 1.5-HP 3-Gallon 155-PSI 120-Volt Hot Dog Electric Air Compressor http://www.lowes.com/pd_57655-30449-0200382_0__?productId=4686711&Ntt=air+compressor&p l=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dair%2Bcompressor&facetInfo=

Or
a PORTER-CABLE 0.8-HP 6-Gallon 150-PSI 120-Volt Pancake Electric Air Compressor http://www.lowes.com/pd_349204-70-C2002_0__?productId=4764588&Ntt=air+compressor&pl= 1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dair%2Bcompressor&facetInfo=

as I think i read where our trailer tires are speced at 125 PSI cold. So I wanted to make sure that I could meet those needs. Then I started looking the that amps that they draw....... I only have a 1000 watt inverter so it does not look like I will have enough power from the inverter to tun it.

So then I found this compressor VIAIR 150 PSI High-Flow Air Source Kit
http://www.amazon.com/viair-150-psi-...SIN=B000X9LTXA
It is more expensive then the others. But it looks like I can run it on the road side if needed. I would even like to run my air gun for short bursts to remove tires if needed.

Am I right in my calculations? What are you running?

Thanks

This is the old version of the one you linked to (last fall they were $99 at Amazon). It's thru-bolted into the base of the RV via bolts attached to the feet.

I just fire up the genny along the roadside if I need to fill a tire. But my tires only require 80 psi.

I have this model Viair, and absolutely love it!

But I will not have a geny with us. So I have to rely on the 1000 watt inverter or battery's.

The big difference between having a 5er and a MH (we had a 5er for 10 years before the MH): I think its pretty much standard equipment having a genny on the MH whereas only Toyhauler 5er's get the option of a genny (since they typically will have a fuel tank).

I bet you could shoehorn a nice little Honda EU2000 in a 5er.

from what I've read, I find it hard to believe it's the same.... for $59.00

Those viair inflators are supposed to be really good. Used a lot by offroaders. Highly regarded.

Back in my popup days, a lot of the guys over on that forum used to rave about teh masterflo compressors as good ones
I think it was this one
http://www.amazon.com/Master-Flow-MF...9143860&sr=1-2.
Not as good as the viair, but good for the money so I read....

I would guess good for smaller trailer tires, but not so much for motorhome tires.

....
They are all made in the exact same factories in China. Anyone can go onto Alibaba.com, purchase at wholesale, and start a portable 12v compressor company!

That's what Viair, Harbor Freight, and others have done. They simply repackage.

In order to compete, they may offer a better warranty, for the exact same product.

I disagree with that statement. Most of them may be made at the same plant. But The specs to how they are built could be completely different. Like the grade of the materials used. I had this debate with someone about HID kits. As if you order enough of something, they will put what ever name you want on the item.

I also have a Viair RV compressor and it is awesome even with the 125 psi tires. It does not take long to adjust your tires. Runs off of your truck batteries and is very powerful. I can't verify but seriously doubt this is the same pump Harbor Freight sells for $69

I will be taking my twin tank portable 2hp Emglo air compressor with me. The little air compressors just don't cut it for me.

I bought a Chinese 800 watt generator from Harbor Freight for less than $100 and an air compressor that looks like the Porter-Cable shown for $39 also from Harbor Freight. I keep them both in the toolbox in the back of the pickup. Not elegant but functional.

If you have a generator at the ready to run a 110v ac compressor, it's cheap enough. Then you have to store it. I'll be ordering the VIAIR P/n 10005 compressor and tank. I'm going the mount compressor in truck bed and the tank might get mounted under bed to frame. Then I'll mount Air Horns and blow the Dumb drivers out of my way...LOL!

I have the VIAIR 400P-Automatic Function Portable Compressor (no tank). No problem storing and works great.

Another option a LOT of guys use is a compressed air tank with either nitrogen or CO2 in the tank. Is doesn't have to be a huge tank to air up a LOT of tires and can also be used to break loose lug nuts with an impact as long as you don't take too long.

The steel high pressure cylinders typically are rated to 2,000 psi or slightly more and a 30 pound cylinder will last for a while. They can be mounted on the bulkhead but make sure you fasten them securely, as they are very dangerous if not properly tied down.

interesting....
A few times I have thought about using one of my scuba tanks that aren't seeing any use these days.... but most of what I have a large and heavy. I do have a couple smaller pony bottles that might be an option....
Just an idea for your scuba divers out there....

Here is the pretty "factory" way to use CO2:

Power Tank
