I don't have two 3000's. That's why I'll use the onboard 6000 if I need that much output. Amazingly, it was 93 degrees here yesterday and one A/C with 110V shore power, kept the interior comfortable. Mostly because I don't have the fishbowl front end like the A's have. The cab never sees sunlight. Our race here in ATL is in February where we don't even need A/C...maybe for just 2 or 3 hours in high of the day at which time I will run the dual Hondas or the 3100.I run only one of the 2000's most of the time at the race to keep batteries up, TV's, fridge cool and microwave. One Honda will run nearly 24 hours on the 5 gallon Moeller tank. Two of them in parallel goes all night plus.

I had 2 of the Honda’s and had nothing but trouble with them. They were hard to start and I would work myself into a sweat pulling on the starter cord. Often times, one would quit for no apparent reason, and then I had to work to get it started again. Yes, they were in Honda repair under warranty and nothing could be found. After about a year and a half, I sold both and bought a 3100 remote Champion, and then moved up to the 3500’s.

Small ones sleep deep. I have 7 generators at home and start each of them on a schedule once a month and place a load on them for a few minutes. they are all an oasis in a storm, but just like wives, do not like being left alone. I also use the non-ethanol gas with Stabil in all of them. Two or three pulls and off they go.

I don’t have any idea where to find non-ethanol fuel. I’ve done a search and found nothing in my area.

Port, do you know where the old style vent caps can be obtained?

Just FYI! Once you've added vents, drilled holes or otherwise altered those gas containers they are YOUR responsibility in case it leaks or causes a fire, the company that made it has no further obligations. I'm not a lawyer, but know several & personally not willing to risk it.
Just my .02 cents!

I agree...

As if they had obligations to begin with. We're talking 5 gallon gas jugs here...not engine modifications. All we're doing is converting them back to the way they were made for over a hundred years and worked fine....until some nerd geek with the EPA in a small office with no windows decides he has a better idea, just to justify his job!!

So, Tex; what is your solution to the expanding fuel tank?

Terry, when i get home from this trip I’ll see if I still have the info.

And in lieu of ethanol free fuel, stabile makes a ln ethanol stabilizer in conjunction with a general fuel stabilizer.

Every time i put fuel in any portable container, and that included the boat and recently traded toy hauler, it gets the fuel treatment.

This is my in bed additional fuel tank! Modified so it actually dispenses Diesel. No expansion issues and I winter in PalmSprings, CA in 110+ weather.

We're not talking diesel...subject is gasoline jugs. Diesel doesn't have the expansion issues that gasoline does.

I was just in a west marine and the fuel tanks on the shelves had vented caps, thumb screws in the cap.

Correct but they only vent one-way and that's inward. They will not release pressure. I found this out with mine.

Sorry but I am showing what I use and diesel does expand but not as much as gas.

I carry 8 each 6 gallon green jerry jugs (spill-proof with no vents) in the open bed of my truck all the time...full of diesel. There are also three of the 5 gallon plastic jugs there now and have been for 2 weeks...full of diesel. No issues with very minor expansion which will happen even with a gallon of water. Had this been gasoline in there they would have all burst and all the containers would look like the Fat Lady that hasn't sung yet. There is a huge difference in gas and diesel.

Diesel or gas, I appreciate all the information. I’ve run low on diesel a few times and have decided to start carrying a 6-gallon can. I’ll check West Marine. And, thanks for the Stabil tip.

Good evening, port. I just did a search on West Marine, and no luck. All of their tanks state, "low permeation, pressurized tank, to meet EPA guidelines". Yes, a close-up of the cap shows a 'knob', they still don't vent. I may buy a new 6-gallon and follow previous advice about installing a pop up vent or a tiny hole in the upper part of the handle. I've still got a couple of weeks before I leave.
