Pulling 5ver with Bed Cover

Would like to have a hard cover that is lockable. Any suggestions and or problems doing this?

With the hitch in the bed, how are you thinking that will work?

I have one of the aluminum roll up covers.....easy install....locks......couple bolts.......I really like it. If you have deep pockets it comes in a electric model with remote.

You can use either a 3 section or roll back bed cover, I've seen several of both with 5th wheels. You will have to have it open when towing but can close it when not.

We have the Retrax roll up. Lockable, water resistant, tough construction. I have had 30" of snow on it and no leaks or sagging. Roll it closed when not towing and keep things safe.

Sorry Fulltimer I wasn't specific enough there. I was looking at a fold back or roll back and really liked the fold back that is lockable. With a long bed the folding portion of the cover will lay flat and be above the bed rails. Have any of you had issues with coming in contact with bottom of the the nose on the 5ver when turning? I am just researching before buying. Thanks for all the replies.

It will depend on the clearance.......keep in mind the clearance changes if on a grade.

I had a folding cover an 05 3500 Dodge we towed an Elite Suite with that worked with no problems. There was 6 inches of clearance between the side rails and the bottom of the RV and when turning a full 90 deg which is very unusual it would get close. I only tested it to verify the clearance but in my 27 years of RVing, I have never had to make a full 90 deg turn and don't ever plan to. The cover I like the best that I have seen is the Extang Encore Tonneau Cover that can be folded from the rear as normal but can also be opened in the front to access stuff stored in the front of the bed. It is lockable using the ignition key.

I suggest a Pace Edwards Full Metal Jackrabbit. Flush on the bed and I can see my hitch when connecting.

A 5ver or 5er is a 5th wheel trailer (the hitch is in the bed of a pickup). Here is our old one:

Thanks for the clarification Jamie. Don't know why everything has to be shortened. Not everyone knows all the codes.

Now you do! BUT I refer to a fifth wheel recreational vehicle as a "5er".

Most of us on the DRV section of the forum use quite a bit of shorthand about our rigs as the only RV that DRV makes is a "fiver" We can also use LDT, MDT and HDT to describe the various types of trucks we pull with (light, medium and heavy duty trucks). We also use that same shorthand about our hitches in calling them TS (TrailerSaver) ET (ET air ride hitches) Companion (B&W Companion) etc.

It will be a lot to take in until you get used to the jargon.

Thumbs up

Will definitely second the RETRAX . Does a GREAT job . Have a Mega cab SHORT bed DRW RAM with a Superglide auto slider. Works GREAT towing and keeps everything dry and secure otherwise:
