Replacing a slide gearbox
Replacing a slide gearbox
The replacement gearbox I received was an updated version and has a tall raised collar at the output shaft. (See the difference on picture # 1) If this happens to you, you will need to do the additional steps at the bottom.
1. Cover the top of the slide with cardboard to keep grease off it.
2. Take some nail polish and mark both chains so when you reinstall the chain back on the sprockets of the gearbox you can line them up properly. (See picture # 2)
3. On the adjuster block, loosen the jam nut, then loosen the adjuster nut to create slack in the chain. Do this to all four adjuster blocks. (See picture # 3) I took the front adjuster blocks on each side completely apart to make it easier to maneuver the chain from the sprockets. (See picture # 4)
4. Remove the chain on both sprockets of the gear box.
5. Remove the two nuts at the bottom of the gearbox. (See picture # 5.) Remove the carriage bolts.
6. Slide the gearbox off of the “drive shaft” that connects the motor to the gearbox. If you do not need to replace the bracket, reverse these steps to reinstall the new gear box.
If you have the updated version of the gear box:
1. Remove the two bolts that secure the motor to the bracket.
2. Remove the five screws mounting the bracket to the wall. (I took a sharpie and drew a line on the side and some of the top to make sure the new bracket was installed in the same place)
3. Reverse all of the stops to install the updated version of the gear box.
***When tightening the adjuster blocks, make sure that they are straight. They need to pass each other without touching.
***My gearbox was for the bed slide. My slide was halfway out. There was limited work space and a lot of the work was done by feel. The project took me three hours to complete.
