Shower Mods

Two issues that everyone should have with there showers.

Problem 1, The cheep silver tin drain strainer is cheap and just sucks.
Solution - a stainless steel silicone cover you can get at Walmart for around $5 or less. I just Place this over the stock one.

Problem 2, the glass tracks hold a lot of water and get nasty quickly.
Solution - dremel a slot across the 3 slowed channels. This allows more water to drain out of the channels.

Thanks for showing the easy fixes! I have the shower/tub in mine and have not had any issue with water outside the shower, but if I do, I thank you again for the tip!

I have never had water outside of the shower either. But the tracks just held so much water.

I'm confused! Are those slots in the BOTTOM of the track?

I believe the track slots all have drain holes on the inward side, else how would the water drain out? Problem with mine was the hole was not at same level as bottom of track and water would build up til high enough to go out the drain.
Solution was as Ryan did--use a Dremel tool with metal bit and cut the slot in the lip. Not exactly rocket science clean, but works.

OK another thing to do!

Both great ideas on the shower...we have a place between the doors that you cant get you hand or a towel in between to clean...Is there an easy way to take the doors apart?

I used a small V shaped file and just file a groove across. Didn't take long in the aluminum.
And yes, those walmart drain covers work well!

No, as the slots in the tracks are facing/draining in towards the shower.

Mine has ruberery like seals that clip onto the glass. It can be removed and installed very easy. The only way to take the doors off it to remove the top bar because the doors use it as there tracks.

shower door

Sometimes bad luck turns out to be good luck.

My plastic panel shower door cracked, First I installed a shower curtain with a normal spring rod. Then I went to camping world and got one of those curtain bars that swing out to give you more elbow room in the shower.
I took the upper track off the top of the shower stall, and installed it on top of the bottom, covering the tracks.
Now I have more room in the shower, no water in the tracks, and if I step on the bottom track, it does not aggravate my foot.

I'm throwing in th towel on keeping the water in the shower.

I Dremel'ed out the track, looks like crap now.
That extrusion should have been punched correctly from the build.

I also get water that slings around the pull handle if you hit it with the shower head while rinsing.

Going to a shower curtain.

I'm using this style curtain as it does not require the roller clips on the bar. Pops on and off easily so it can be washed as needed.

Looks like the local seamstress will have to do a little sewing though to make it fit correctly.

I'm doing the same Duane. Even with better drainage, a bunch of grunge collects in the track under the doors and cannot be cleaned easily. The glass is out, and I just have to decide whether to use a tension rod, or one with screw on brackets.

Tooth brush and a little water to rinse cleans the tracks easily.

Pro tip. Don't use the DW's toothbrush. For some reason they don't like it. [emoji16]
