Undercarriage Question

I was out working under our coach and noticed for the first time that there was no underbelly covering under the generator, just a 38 by 20 inch cutout that goes up about 3 inches to the floor of the generator compartment. Is that how they come from the factory, or did a cover come off somewhere down the road? We have a '16 38RSSA.

There cannot be a covering under the gen--that is where the hot air from the engine cooling is dispersed and also where the exhaust pipe exits. Same for mine on a 2015...also, if it is an Onan, do not run the unit with the front cover off.

Mine is that way. They want ZERO obstruction for cooling the gen. A person could add a 1/2" wire mesh screen over the hole BUT that may clog with debris when the gen is running.

Fulltimer50,
The frame has a cutout to place a gen in the compartment, but the upper side is covered by the flooring and the lower side by the chloroplast. If a gen is installed, they will cut the floor and the chloroplast to expose the opening. Pretty routine operation, if the installer knows what to do. Sometimes, the bracing has to be modified or moved. I think Onans come with a template to make the floor cuts.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Now I can cross "replace generator underbelly cover" from my to-do list.
