How much weight do you carry?

Looking forward to our new Houston that should be delivered toward the end of September. Dry weight is around 19,600 lbs. The rig is rated for 24,000 lbs giving us about 4,400 lbs of cargo. Just wondering how much weight do folks normally carry in their rig. I would think if you have a couple of kids the weight would be higher for their stuff. With just two of us in the rig wondering if we will every reach the 4,400 pounds of stuff.

Congratulations on the new rig!
I would think that 4,400 pounds of room between the unladen weight, and the "Don't go here" limit; would be plenty sufficient...
But to be safe: it's always a good idea to find a set of scales, and get it weighed...

I agree about getting it weighted that will be our number one priority when we pick it up prior to loading it with stuff. The scales are cheep and worth the effort to know what you are doing. Just wondering how much people normally carry around with them. I know a hard question to answer. For a weekend trip not much, full timers a lot of stuff.

Definitely am interested in what the delivered "Dry Weight" is for that model. Hoping to hear back from you. Going to guess about 20400...

I’ll bet you are correct. I ordered the washer and dryer and the big generator.

GVWR (gross vehicle weight) is only one thing to consider. You also need to be aware of GAWR (axel weight).
When I weighed my rig, I found I was under GVWR buy 2500 lbs, however the rear axel was only 500 lbs under the GAWR for my vehicle.
I relocated some heavier items (bottle jack, tools etc.) closer to the front to try and compensate. Haven’t reweighed yet.

It is not just about the weight, but where it is also. Having a balanced load is important.

I should have weighed again after our trip to Houston. I think we were carrying more in our tanks, but the first trip, just me on board with a full tank of gas I weighed in at 18440lbs.

19 Hurricane 34J.

That left a lot of room for towing, and on the second trip I had a ~1500lb trailer with a 3800lb vehicle.

GCVR is 26000lbs for this one. If I estimate about 250 lbs of kids that would put me under about 2000lbs. We probably had a couple hundred more pounds of clothes and such though.

We have been 13,300 on a 14,500 e450 Vegas. Total GCVW of 18,800 against a 22,000 limit.

We did a lot of homework comparing units, the 3,199 OCCC of the Vegas was the winner.

We are going to add 2nd a/c for redundancy as we have plenty of weight rating to add stuff.

I think that the OCCC on our 3500 Sprinter-based RV is about 800 pounds...
Mercedes had better get busy with building those new "4500" Sprinters!

And here I was concerned that I "only" had 7800 lbs available...

How much weight do you carry?

Weighed for the first time in Montana on a long trip. We weighed 18,016 lbs on our 18,000 lb GVWR Class A. Told the wife we both have to go into the store and use the facilities and we’d be fine! We had about 3/4 fuel and full fresh water so I’m probably actually good. I rarely have more than half of a tank of fresh water. Didn’t do corner weights but front to rear balance was perfect.
