We have had one for around 8 months now and works great. You do know they no longer offer the $20 a month unlimited plan?

Cost for the plan have changed

Thanks Hunter. Yes, the cost for the unlimited is $90 --- but that is still less than the Satellite dish I want to get rid of.

Looks like the Mobley is the way to go and then I can stream programs from my laptop to my TV.

Thanks again

Don

We love it! It creates a hot-spot on the interior of our RV. So far, we have always had great AT&T service. Fortunately, we got the $20 per month deal.

I have had my Mobley for about 8 months and LOVE IT! Hard to beat the $20 unlimited data. I also bought an Unite Explore 815s. So now I have the Mobley sim in that hot spot. It is a much more updated and capiable hot spot.

We have the Mobley but since we also have an AT&T Unlimited plan, we upgraded to a Netgear MiFi (still $20 per month.) It allows up to 20 connections (vs. 5 on the Mobley) and it has Enhanced LTE for faster data (unlike the Mobley, which is simple LTE.)

All in all, for someone who needs access for a few devices it is a good deal. You will also need to buy an adapter to run it from either AC or 12V from eBay (another $30 or so.) Make sure if you get it you log into the admin page and turn off the "sleep" setting or else it will power down on its own after a few hours.

Contacted AT&T recently and they said the $20 unlimited still available for the mobley but you have to bundle it with a cellular plan worth X dollars (don't remember the exact amount). In other words, you have to already be an AT&T cellular customer to get the mobley plan which I am not. I decided to stick with my Google ProjectFi plan and use my phone as a hotspot as Google just announced the unlimited data plan will cost no more than $80 max per month. The hotspot on my Nexus 5 phone works very well, even for video streaming as I use it at home when my internet is down. Of course all depends on signal strength. I use a cell booster at home so non issue. I may install one in my coach.

If you just want a MiFi or Hotspot there are much better devices out there for that that are cheaper than a Mobley.

jpmihalk,

I did buy the AC adapter, but ended up not using it. I just plugged the Mobley into my OBD port under the steering wheel.

What about the service itself? I'm paying $140/mo for an AT&T leased line with a Netgear hotspot. Is there a more cost effective option?

We have Verizon Truly Unlimited plan. Calls, texts and Data unlimited Canada, Mexico and USA with no roaming. We each have I phones. The plan cost is $110. Each device whether it's a phone, tablet MiFi etc is $20 per month. With the MiFi they cut back at 15G usage to 3G. With the phones they say they "MAY" reduce speed in congested areas after 23G usage. We use her phone as a hot spot to watch Netflix. My phone is used to feed the iMac computer. We use nearly 100G per month with zero issues.

We have some friends and family that are on out plan. The $20 deal they pay about $23.90 a month with tax, they are all thrilled.

IMHO having used most every provider and service out there this is DaChit!!!

I have two Mobley’s on the $20 unlimited plan. One is always on (the other is mostly a back up just in case, but gets used occasionally). It is our only source of internet at home and in the 5er. Our phones also have internet, but they are usually on local (home/RV) WiFi provided by the Mobley unless we are out and about so we use very little data on their respective plans. I have networks in both my home and RV that the Mobley connects to to provide internet access to get around the five connection limit of the Mobley. I just checked and we are at 72 gigs of data used so far this month with another ten or so days to go in our billing cycle. I am very happy with the set up. What really makes it though is the $20 plan. Even with two of them, I am still paying way less than what I was paying for my home DSL previously and that didn’t help in the RV at all when traveling. Keeping the Mobley on 24/7 was creating issues periodically with connections. I solved this by plugging it into a mechanical timer. Now every morning at about 3:15, the Mobley is automatically powered down for 15 minutes by the timer. This has solved my periodic connection issues. The Mobley is not the best “hotspot” device out there, but when it was combined with the $20 unlimited plan it was the best bundle by far.

I've had the Mobley since the tail end of the $20 unlimited deal...

While it wouldn't work for me as a primary home connection (not the units fault - no cellular company gets a good signal IN my house...) - in the RV it works great - and spends the rest of its time in my car or shop providing hotspots to those previously wifi challenged areas..

There are better devices - but the price point I couldn't even come close to... and it does the job I need it to do.

What is the advantage of the United Explore? No issues swapping in the SIM card?

You can take it with you and not be tethered to the power adapter for the Mobley. Yes it is as easy as swapping the SIM card. I also use ours in the Unite.

If I remember correctly it picks up on 3 additional bands vs the Mobley. Really just a much more updated hot spot. Plus you can just Carry it with you unplugged and even charge your phone with it. I have only had it the Explorer for a couple of months now. There are people that have been using it for almost a year with no issues. Swapping the sim is very easy also.

Does putting the sim in another device impact the $20/month unlimited terms for the Mobley?

Mine and everyone else’s monthly cost has not change that I know of. As far as terms, depends on who you ask. I guess if you want to know 100% you could print them off and hire a lawyer to interpret it. They do see that it is in an Explore 815s instead of a Mobley. But it is going into a hotspot not a cell phone using the hot spot. So I think ATT really does not care. And some people read the contract as, as long as it is a hot spot you are OK. I kept my Mobley and power cord in case I get some sort of notice from ATT. Then I will just switch it back. I did a lot of reading on HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource.
