New Axis 24.1

I have decided to buy an Axis 24.1 and have selected my local dealer to order one from. Any advice on options or purchase price is welcome. Also any advice on doing the inspection and how many test runs before extending trips.

Also unsure to order now or wait until January/February as I live in a cold weather state. But want to use in March on trip to Az. But would not have much chance for test runs.

Also first time Motor home buyer who is not handy and not mechanically inclined. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

By the time your new order arrives, you are past the end of the camping season in Illinois. Winter camping is not for the beginner. You might ask your dealer if they have a unit you could rent for a weekend or two now, to gain some motor home experience.

If your new coach will be just winterized and stored until March, why pay the interest and insurance for the extra months? You might order to pick it up about a month before your planned trip.

There aren't many options on the Axis or Vegas. It's hard to know if you'll use the second battery, the tank heaters, the ceiling fans, or the bigger A/C until you need them. It will cost you more to retrofit, so most folks just load them up. You will find that each option is an absolute must for somebody.

When we ordered ours, we didn't really want the outside TV, but wanted the cabinet. To get the cabinet, we ordered the outside TV, but no bedroom TV, and had the dealer move it for us. Saved a few $ there. We ordered with no fans, and I installed a better fan in the front vent, and vent covers, too.

As to price, call some other dealers and be specific about options. Delivery cost should be low because of the short distance to Elkhart. Tell them you want "out the door" price and ask about delivery dates. What anyone paid a few months ago is irrelevant today. Dealers might give you a better deal toward the end of December, to help their sales numbers.

Suggest you add to "not handy and not mechanically inclined" this phrase, "willing to learn!" You'll find a lot of knowledge and experience here.
