2018 Four Winds 31W

Hi everybody - We picked up our first ever RV this past Friday and are having fun checking out how everything works (or doesn't work) and making up our have-it-fixed list. We haven't done much traveling or exploring or anything and are hoping this will nudge us to get out and have some fun new adventures with our grown children and a couple of cute granddaughters. Had been lurking on the forum the last week or two and am impressed with the great information.
Safe Travels!

Great coach. We have had ours now for 1.5 years and love it. Many mods and still doing more. We bought ours because it was easy to get the sofa out and replace with chairs being it was not in the slide like the 31L. The res fridge and hall closet were other selling points. We go for 4-6 wks at a time so it's nice to have something comfortable to sit in at night.

Hoser

Hi Everyone
My new 2018 Thor 37RB is in and ready to be picked up. I am flying from NJ to Baton Roue, LA to pick it up. I will pick it up on 9-6-17 due to a doctors appointment. I am a first time RVer and will let you know how things go. Anxious to get on the road

Congrats! We've had our 2017 Challenger 37LX for nearly two months, but had a busy summer already planned so we've only had one outing so far. I'm anxious to get out there!

Congrats Pete! and welcome to the forum!
(I've know Pete for over 20 years from another hobby... We lived only a few miles apart when I was in Michigan.)

Lots of folks here willing to help out as you go..
I've already pointed him to Ed's manual for the information that crosses over from Axis/Vegas to all.

Thanks! Our first coach was a little 77 Tioga that we were the 4th owner of. More recently a 1999 Aerolite Cub hybrid trailer. BIG STEP UP!

Congrats! Are you getting the 31W, or something else? We've been pretty happy with ours so far and love getting out with it. We just purchased a street legal 2017 RZR 900 4 seater to tow behind and after we get back from Hawaii next week we're heading out to Moab, UT to visit a few of the National Parks there for the very first time (and we've lived here in UT for 12+ years...so sad). Enjoy your coach!

Yes a 2018 Four Winds 31W. Kinda funny since our boat is Four Winns Horizon 180. Can you tow the RZR flat? Or dolly?

A nice 12' trailer came with the purchase, so it's 4 wheels up. I haven't thought about towing it flat or on a dolly, but because they have such soft tires, I'm inclined to keep it up on the trailer. I pulled it with both the RV and with my 2017 Tacoma. What a world of difference! I hardly notice it behind the RV.

So as a newbie, what do people think about

1) Extended warranty - I've been advised to wait until the coach warranty is expiring and shop around then.

2) Tire and wheel road hazard protection?

3) Coach-net or other roadside assistance?

Thanks,
Pete

We have extended warranty, would not buy again. Dealers tend to work on units for payment before ones with extended warranties. Its the difference between days to work on it instead of months.

Tire care is non starter, I wouldn't consider myself.

Roadside service (about $60 yearly)is well worth the cost for peace of mind. We also joined FMCA as it gives you Travel Insurance included in the $50 yearly membership cost. Both give you the peace of mind and someone to call if you have a problem. Sometimes out of town you just don't know who to contact when things go wrong.

Looks like you already saw my answer in another thread:
Thor Forums - View Single Post - Paint / Color Protection

For tire protection - many do not come with a spare - so the possibility of having to buy a tire on the road is there... Others have reported still being charged about the same when having to do so - but I like knowing its covered... and hoping I lose money on it and never need to use it
Many comments/threads about adding a spare - should you carry one or not... etc.

I expect since you are buying from General RV that you will get Coach-net 'free' for the first year? So you will have time to decide on year 2 for the road hazzard.
