Flat towing

I've researched flat towing a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid. One question, when I put the vehicle in neutral, what keeps it from "popping" or "jolting" out of neutral as you tow it down the road?

I guess not much, but I have never heard of that happening.

I would think that since Neutral is where no gears are actually engaged, to engage the gears would take some force and timing. Can't say I have heard of it happening but it isn't likely, especially once the vehicles are moving.

Most auto trans, at least the ones with the shifter on the floor, require the user to hold down a button to shift from N to D or R. And/or require your foot to be on the brake.
