Newbie who wants to full time travel

Well, yesterday, with a very first post, I inserted myself into a thread. Then afterward, it dawned on me that maybe the intro-thing should have come first. My sincere apology for goofing up procedures.

So, back in the Spring, my husband brought home a 2020 Thor Magnitude XG32 and I was AWED by that. He gave me Taj, the most beautiful full time travel machine I'd ever seen. It had never even occurred to me such beauty could exist in any vehicle.

We are so thankful and blessed. But I'm not exactly happy yet. Very badly, I want to take Taj to Alaska, my home. God willing, we'll be all set by this coming Spring. In the meantime, we've been beefing up Taj, and making mods, doing upgrades, and it's just been wonderfully satisfying. This forum's members have been incredibly educationally helpful! Oh! And before I forget to mention it, our towed is a 2017 AWD Ford Edge Titanium...nicely complimenting our gorgeous 4x4 RV.

This photo is not my rig, but it is an XG32 in the snow...because I have a dream and can see my pointy earred dogs and cat just beyond the edges of it...

Officially: Welcome to our campfire!
In the other thread: you mentioned that your Mom lived on a boat for a while.
That is very similar to RVing...
After all: if a boat is a hole in the water; into which one throws money....
An RV has the exact same relationship with the woods!
In the meantime: I think I saw a picture of your RV somewhere...

I know right?? Taj is just like that with wheels!! When Michael pulled into our driveway ---> my whole being got shook to the core. Then he opened the door and I could only just stand there all dumbfounded by beauty.

Can't wait for my mom to see what she started!! haha

ETA: Thank you, Bob *hug* <3

Thanks Coachray<3,

Learning about RV stuff has been a venture in-of-itself: amp/watts/voltage info ....to all that H2o management ...to the stinky slinky thingy!!! ....etc., etc., wow holey cow endless etc., ....right now I'm lifting the heavy subject of weight.

It's good this Thor forum is here to help me learn.

Don't hesitate to pitch a question to us: we like solving problems!
(Or better yet: keeping problems from happening! )

Hi and welcome! the folks here have helped us LOTS with our year long upgrades as well, thanks folks. one month from retirement, and we depart, with hopes of Alaska come May. As you are from Alaska with hopes of arriving in the spring, We would VERY much like your advise on getting there, being there. We have been there, in the past vacationing, for about 3 weeks and want lots more, and now is that time for more. We are listening!

GalOntheGo....
The truth is right now....I know only enough to be considered dangerous! And I'm only smart enough to recognize that I'm not smart enough. Sigh.

But I love that you're wanting to go to Alaska as much as me, so hoping we can learn together: the rules and regulations and/or laws...for Canada to Alaska, are more intimidating than it used to be back in the day (feels like a hundred years ago), when that travel was actually easy. Double sigh.

Well now it feels like full disclosure has become necessary. The School of Hardknocks threatens expulsion if I don't get my act together soon. What will I say to my mom?
But thanks for the needed boost of confidence....maybe I can achieve the diploma after all!

I just realized that I forgot to tell everyone we're currently residing in Florida. My husband was military for 32 years and that's how we got here. But he's retired now and after 30 years of me...he wants to go to Alaska (that's where we first met), as much as ...well you already know.

But it's this business right here (source https://www.thorforums.com/forums/sh...28&postcount=9), that I'm trying to understand, quoting pertinent, "Also, in a motorhome that small .....[u]nless the driver and passenger are 300 pounds each traveling with a 100 pound dog 1000 pounds of capacity can be quite a bit if one is selective in what they pack."

My husband might be almost 170, and me maybe as much as 125, altho, I hope not that much. My two white shepherds together, 130ish tops, the Chihuahua, at most 3, and the cat, around 8. That's 436~esque total pounds. Does that count toward GCVW? Apparently, yes...I guess.

Now, let's say my family members are gonna want to go for a ride in Taj when we finally arrive in Alaska. Do I ask their individual weight? Aaaaaa!!

Except for the Slinky: it's all a huge balancing act...
You have a certain amo8unt of power/water/propane available for a given circumstance. You just need to balance them against what you have... and what you need to save for the future!
The Slinky? Keep it clean, and keep yourself safe!

I'm thinking about hiring a full time travel servant, which is prob'ly doable...except for that whole salary-health insurance-liability thing.
