Another newbie

Hello, I just joined the forum and have an 2017 Vegas 2.5.

I just traded in a 40' Phaeton which I full timed in for 12 years and wanted to downsize, I think I did that for sure.

Congratulations and welcome to the Forum. While we are not full-timers, we did downsize from a 37' Pace Arrow to a 2016 Vegas 25.3. We love the smaller size, as we are travelers more so than campers. The drivability and maneuverability of the 25.3 makes our travels so much more enjoyable.

For pleasurable riding and driving, I would suggest three things:

1. Get a front end alignment asap if you haven't already. It is not at all unusual for the front ends to be out of alignment even when brand new. Make sure you have at least 5 degrees of caster.

2. Get a Safe-T-Plus or other similar steering damper....this will eliminate much of the see-saw steering inherent in the factory setup.

3. Install heavy duty sway bars...this will eliminate much of the sway when turning and maneuvering, plus it eliminates much of the sway when you pass/are passed by semis.

There are several threads on here that address each of these suggestions.

I did all three at once, and it was like driving a completely different coach. I highly recommend.

The Safe-T-Plus for my coach was the 31-140 (plus mounting hardware) and you can get it on Amazon for less than $400 for damper and mount.

https://smile.amazon.com/United-Safe...-t-plus+31-140

The front and rear sway bars were purchased individually, but cost about $450 total.

I had the alignment done and all the above installed at a facility in Knoxville for about $300....I don't remember the exact price.

So about $1100 to $1200 total....and well worth it. The best money I've spent yet on this coach.

Please verify the part numbers needed for your coach. Don't assume we will be the same.

Thanks for all the welcomes, I've got lots to learn about this new rig, The "User's Guide" by Ed Felker has already helped quite a bit. I'll get the alignment done as soon as I get it loaded and re weighed and will look into the other suspension mods as I use it.

Thought I'd go to Quartzsite for a shake down run but the wx is horrible this week and next so I'll just keep loading, etc.

aaOri,

We just drove through Arizona week before last, as we travelled Route 66. Crossed Arizona west to east, including Oatman, Kingman, Flagstaff, Winslow (yes, we stood on the corner), etc. Quite a ride in the Vegas the day we went to Oatman. Beautiful scenery!!
