Another Texas Newbie

Hi. Just joined the forum. Wife and I are recently retired and ready to start RV'ing (just starting to shop for a MH). We've got two family reunions (hers and mine) scheduled for this summer on back to back weeks in Illinois and Michigan and would love to do it in our new RV. We haven't owned an RV in quite a long time. Our last (and only) was a Rockwood Pop-up back when our kids were young (they're grown and on their own now).

We've been looking at used motorhomes and are currently interested in either a Thor Hurricane or Challenger (34'-36'). Looking at some low mileage 2015 and 2016 models. We like these particular models based on the bath and 1/2 floor plan with washer/dryer prep. We can see ourselves doing trips for 4 to 6 weeks at time. Maybe even longer if it weren't for our two new grandkids (Grandma couldn't stand to be one from them longer than that.)

Anyways, I'm glad to be here and hope to learn a lot from the experienced folks on this forum. I'd love to get some feedback, good or bad, from any current owners of these models of RV's.

I put down a deposit on a 2017 Thor Challenger 37LX this week. Plan is to close on it on Wednesday. Buying from Motorhome Specialists in Alvarado, TX. Looking forward to the RV'ing lifestyle.

Also planning to buy a new Jeep Wrangler for a toad (doesn't seem to be any reasonably priced used Wranglers on the market). Does anyone have any recommendations on someone in the Houston area to install the baseplate and wire the Wrangler for towing? Thanks.

I can certainly recommend MSHRV! We bought our Windsport last June from MSHRV and couldn't be happier with the great customer service, low pressure sales, and Great staff there! Absolutely a great place to buy!!!

I live in the Dallas area so no recommendations for work on your Jeep. I do recommend the CooltechLLC wiring harness, best and easiest one on the market! I know because that's what I used on our Jeep! Probably the easiest way to tow is get an aftermarket bumper that has tow brackets already welded on. The brackets will be brand specific for the brand of towbar you buy. You will also need to think about a braking system for your Jeep, lots of brands to choose from.

A few months back I bought Blue Ox for our Ford Focus. We love it...

Congrats TX tig! We bought our windsport from mhsrv a few weeks ago and had an incredible experience. If you can swing it i highly suggest taking them up on the offer to stay the first night at their facility to try everything out. Your coach will have issues, probably nothing major but the sooner you get the little things ironed out the better. We weren't able to do it and i'm sitting here on our first trip making a list of things they need to fix! Even still- this is our first motorhome (had a few bumper pulls) and we love it.

Thanks for the feedback. We are definitely planning on spending the first night at their facility. I expect that we will, discover some issues (hopefully minor), but even if we don't, I'm sure I will need them to re-explain some of the operational things about the motorhome (this is our first one) that next morning. We live about four hours from MHSRV, so I want to be sure that everything is good before we head back home.

We are both recently retired, so we will, have a lot of time now to use our motorhome and do a lot of traveling. I'm really looking forward to this next chapter of our lives.
