Battery Disconnect

First Post
Hello Everyone,
My name is Brian. I live in Pennsylvania. We bought a 2013 Freedom elite 28z at the end of summer last year. We had an older Class A for a couple of years before we bought our freedom elite. Was way to big for what we were looking for. We are still new to motor homes. I’m hoping someone can explain the battery disconnect switch to me. I winterized our RV in November with no problems. I left our rv plugged into shore power this winter. Hope that is ok. But whenever I unplug it from shore power the disconnect never shuts off my batteries. Im not sure if I push it in the down position or up position. I always have lights. They will never shut off with the disconnect button. Hopefully I’ve explained this right. Thanks for your help. Look forward to talking in the future

Find your battery discount. Make sure both 5 amp fuse are ok.

If use storage switch is off, no lights should work.

Get your VOM and check voltage while checking fuses

Operating your battery switch after verification of fuses, check voltage again on both sides of the solenoid

Also note if the charger is on or off and check voltage in both positions

The battery disconnect switch does just that: disconnects and connects the house batteries to the house DC distribution buss. Leaving the MH plugged into SP with the batteries connected is fine - it keeps them charged. But now it seems you can't disconnect the batteries. Pushing the switch DOWN should move the latching relay (disconnect) to the OPEN position. You should hear a distinct CLUNK as the latching relay moves. If you don't hear the CLUNK, the latching relay is not moving. As others have said, find the latching relay and check the fuses. It may look like the one pictured above or it may be a black box with a single 5 amp external fuse holder.
