Battery Replacements

Does my 2017 Thor Citation require any changes or modifications to replace the original standard flooded 12 V, group 27 batteries? Looking at installing two AGM type batteries.
Thanks, Harvey

1 - label each cable/wire connected to the batteries
2 - take multiple pictures of the "before" installation
3 - unplug from SP, disconnect the Negative terminal on the chassis battery, and open the house battery disconnect.

Should be a straightforward swap. Just make sure everything goes back exactly as you removed it. Not sure the model of converter charger in that one but most of those are Progressive Dynamics units that only have a mode you change if you are installing Lithium batteries. Otherwise it is the same. If you have a solar charging system, then your solar charger might having a setting to tell it what kind of batteries you are changing to. Inverters sometimes also.

AGM batteries are only one type valve regulated lead acid batteries (VRLA). The chemistry is identical to flooded, lead acid batteries so no changes are needed. A few chargers have settings for different battery manufacturers voltage recommendations which raise the voltage during the absorptive charging stage above that recommended for flooded batteries with antimony strengthened plates. If you can adjust the absorptive voltage of your charger, you should use the battery's manufacture's recommendations.

Some battery compartments can take a pair of Group 31 batteries, my under the step compartment in my Axis can. The overall length of a pair will be 26". G31s give you about 25% more Ah capacity- 100 Ah each and they usually aren't more expensive than G27s. Renogy, WindyNation and others sell G31 AGMs on Amazon for about $200 each.

But you may have a problem with the existing cables, particularly the jumpers being too short with G31s. Easy to fix though.

Good advice to take many photos, it gets busy in there and a spare wire left over and no idea where it goes is not nice.

A great time to clean the battery box, remove any corrosion and re spray black. Remember to check the underside of the RV also.

I added a few pieces of tool box draw liner to add an additional barrier for corrosion prevention.

Nice

I just like clean, now I got to go clean my battery compartment. My FLA caused some corrosion that drive me nuts. The AGMs are just the greatest. Lithium batteries may be like Gold bars, but my AGMs are like millions in the bank. Sometimes good enough is good enough

I thought you would appreciate, this is picture of brand new 2019 Windsport that dealer would not repair and Thor said was NOT covered under warranty. I walked from the deal and got a refund of my deposit. I have been SOB every since.

One battery had exploded. They did replace that battery but corrosion was everywhere including the floor.
