First time RV owner & camper

Hello,
My name James and i just purchased a 2017 Thor Quantum 31 WS. prior to purchasing the RV i had never been in one before. I have also never been camping with my family. lol

My biggest concern now is getting it in the driveway.

question for the group. cover or no cover for the RV?

You don't have to run out and get a cover right away. Storing it for a few days/weeks without it covered won't hurt.

If you are worried about the finish put a good coat of wax on it (keep in mind that it will take a while to wax the whole thing).

I cover ours over the winter since putting the cover on and remove it can be a bit of a pain thus covering it only in winter means putting the cover on once at the end of the season, and removing it at the start of the next season.

During the season we keep all the curtains closed, plug all the ceiling vents, and use foil in the front window to keep the UV out of the inside and fading the fabrics.

Welcome and congrats on your new unit!! There's always a bit of a challenge with backing etc., have a spotter and work out your hand signals or use phones to talk. I never move my MH until I see my copilot in my mirror. Happy trails!!

We did same thing, never had RV and never camped. Jumped in 2 years ago and have no regrets. Safe Travels.

Congrats on the RV.

I have had a few units over the years and do not use a cover. I keep the coach at the house and aside from loading the fridge, it is usually ready to go for short/no notice trips. Having it covered would add to the prep time.

I don't use an RV cover for the same reasons as most. Too bulky and I use my RV about once a month.

On the other hand, I do keep the tires covered. UV can damage rubber and make your tires age.

I park my motorhome under a 40 foot RV carport. Started off with just a roof and half way down the sides but then had them come back and completely close it in except for the front. I am a big proponent of keeping an RV out of the sun, which dries up seals, roof, makes plastic brittle, fades your paint/fiberglass, etc. Once that process starts, then come the leaks. The cost of the RV carport was not as bad as I thought it would be, $5-6K. If you consider the damage that sun and rain can do to your RV, money worth the spend. Of course, not everyone has the room for such a large garage.

As others have mentioned if you keep a good coat of wax on RV and keep the roof clean your unit will last for years. An an annual routine of inspecting all caulking, screw tightening & rubber seal cleaning (including windshield wipers if a motorhome) will ensure longer life. Tire covers help as well.

Thanks everyone for the input.
We picked up the Quantum 31 WS and took it right to the KOA.
fortunately for me the nearest KOA is 2 miles from my house.

We spent Friday and Saturday night at the site and it was a learning experience.
The auto level system didnt work and ended up killing the whole leveling system so we couldn't put our slides out. also the cable didnt work and we fought to keep the rv cool.

We ended up working through all the issues and overall had a good time.
we are taking it back out in two weeks.

now my only problem is getting the unit in my driveway....i got lucky and didnt have to bring it home...lol
its at the shop getting the levels fixed

so far we are happy and excited

:P
