Freshly Retired Navy, Hurricane 34B, X-Country engage!

I'm officially retired as of today... 20 and done. Looking forward to starting my next career with a big defense firm outside of DC later in the month. First things first... ROAD TRIP! The wife and I figured we'd never get another chance like this with the kids young enough to still think we're cool and we pulled the trigger a 2008 Hurricane 34B. Lots of new stuff installed and only a few minor issues to take care of. I was on the lookout for a 28'ish foot Class-C, but this one fell in my lap. Leaving San Diego and spending 4th of July weekend near China Lake with friends... then head east and maximize the campground experience. The learning curve has been uphill the past few days, but giddy-up!

If you happen to know why my 12volt dash sockets aren't working via my other thread, help appreciated!

If you happen to know where to purchase a complete seal surround for the main couch/dinette slide and a tutorial for install, I could use that too!

I would check the fuses, the fuse box on my Hurricane is under the dash above the driver’s left foot. Good luck. Enjoy your retirement.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the service. Biggest problem I had with retirement after active duty was what to wear on a daily basis (no more uniform requirements). Good luck on the. second career, I'm retiring from my second when our contract ends in a couple months.

Most RV dealers can get you the slide seals you need. The issue is in correct identification of the slide seal since there are a bunch of different ones on the market. Take a picture of the end profile of the seal and use that when ordering. When we had theChallenger it took three attempts before Thor sent us the right seal for replacement under warranty.

Again, welcome, congrats and may your travels be safe.

Thor Parts:

Total Value RV
Elkhart, IN
866-282-4460

I live in CA and have ordered from them.
The parts dept will answer your questions, and source your part quickly.
They deal directly with the Thor factory and know their stuff.

Welcome to the Forum!

I have no Maxi fuses, so guess we'll go down the mountain tomorrow and see if we can find one. I will let everyone know if I'm successful!

Do it quick because Total Value has been bought by Lazy Days with finalizing the sale over the next 90 days.

Will be interesting to see how that acquisition will impact parts availability.

At least they didn't get bought by Camping World like all of the dealers around me.

The Power port fuse is in the Ford electrical box under the hood. <https://www.recpro.com/rv-seals/> has every type of rubber seal you will ever need; much cheaper than Thor MC.

Parked at my buddies house in Ridgecrest outside of China Lake, CA... will put up some pics in a bit of the rig fully set up for the first night ever!

QUESTION: If I plug into his garage outlet and run a heavy cable with a 110-30amp-50amp adapter setup, can I run my REAR A/C unit if nothing else is on? I think I read "maybe" a month ago in another thread when I was doing random homework. Would like to NOT run the generator on his driveway. It's the desert, so gets nice and cool after about 9pm... but whaddya think?

QUESTION: Thanks for the links to the seals... any idea how much a shop would charge to replace the seal on a couch/dinette combo super-slide? Is that outpatient surgery for one of these, or am I gonna leave it overnight?

You should be able to run 1 A/C and lights off a dedicated 20 Amp outlet. No electric water heater and may have to keep the fridge on gas. TVs should be OK as well.

I had Recpro send my new reclining love seat to my RV repair place (not an RV dealer). When the boxes arrived at the Wagner's RV, they called me with an appointment for the installation. I was on the lot for about 45 minutes and they charged me $100 to remove the old sofa-bed and install the recliners.

Another thanks for the twenty. Did my first 20 for country and my second twenty for the state. Make sure you spend as much time as possible with the children during your second career cause it goes by faster than the first.

I have the standard two pack of yellow heavy duty cables from Costco with the indicator light built into the plug. That light is on so I know I'm getting power from the wall. How do I tell if I am making power into the coach? Neither AC will come on and to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what the hell I'm doing!

Plug in any 120 volt device to any of the duplex 120 volt receptacles (non GFCI) and see if it works. If you have an inverter, make sure is off before you test.

OK... receptacles work verified off a couple small vornado fans. Neither roof AC will come on. Both roof AC units work great on 5500 generator power as long as I manage the rest of the load. Is there a contact somewhere in the electrical system that senses 20amp wall connection vs 30/50amp campground power before the AC units will play ball?

As far as I know you do not have a power management system, so the A/Cs should try to start or at least the fan run. I would suspect the problem is the thermostat. It requires 12 volts and that comes through the furnace fuse to work. That is the best remote trouble shooting I can do.

Ex-Navy ET here - 11 years. Let’s troubleshoot.

Did the ACs work when connected to a campground power source?

They do work on the Generator.

You are connected to a buddies garage using an extension cord and a dogbone to go from 15 or maybe 20 amp receptacle to your rig.

Is it the right dogbone?

Are you tripping the buddies breaker?

If you start from scratch - all AC devices off in the coach, hook up to buddies house, store/use in store, set store/use to use and you get lights. Then look at microwave - does the front panel have lights? Then try to turn the rear AC on with fan set to low. Does it work? If not, did you trip the buddies breaker? If not, did you trip your coach AC breaker?

Oh...you don’t have a dogbone attached but one of the small pucks that go from 15/20A to 50A. They are notorious for failing. You want one of these - https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Plug-Ada.../CAM55168.html
