Hello

Good early morning internet land. We recently bought a new-to-us 2017 Thor Four Winds 31E. It had ~3K miles on it which I hear is all but new. It's our first RV. We've done a couple of minor trips but nothing major yet. I have been doing some light searches here on a few topics that I am sure have been well covered in the past. "Using the generator while sleeping", "Driving with the Propane on", etc. They seem polarizing for certain. Almost as much as topics like "9mm, 40, or 45" on my other boards. I have, more than likely, outed myself and ostracized myself from half the board but thought I would get it out of the way.

LOL! Congratulations and welcome.

Yes: There are strong opinions on using propane while going down the road (myself: There really is no reason to have the water heater on at all, the refrigerator I leave on and turn off at gas stops). If you are really concerned you can leave the water heater and refer on electric and run the generator.

Thanks Jamie. One of my biggest things is running the genny overnight to run the AC while boon docking. I have a portable genny that will run the AC and other accessories with no problems. We'll see.

I'm a huge fan of portables and there are many threads here and on irv2 with billions of opinions. In fact, some people get really agitated when you don't think like they do. If you're thinking of running portables...no need to go through all the reasons why it's a good idea. I have the Champion 3100 and 2 Honda's with parallel kit and extended run fuel system. I have a sign next to them..."Tree Huggers Move On!".

There are no right or wrong answers, just opinions. I happen to favor the "go big or go home" crowd... my choice is the 1911 stainless .45.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum!
