Hello from Curtis and Chung

My name is Curtis and my wife and I live in Tracy CA. We just purchased a Chateau 26A from a show but have not picked it up from the dealer yet. They found an issue with the wire harness to the transmission so the local Ford deal had to replace it. We plan on picking it up this week.
So, excited and worried at the same time. Lots to learn about everything.
I am a little concerned that we purchased the F350 chassis and not the F450. I am not sure what the impact will be long term with having a lighter chassis on a 26Fter.
I hope to meet new friends and gain lots of valuable information on this site.

We have a Four Winds 23U which is 25 ft. and with a F350 chassis and it is no problem. If I was buying a 29+ footer I would probably want a 450 but ours is the right size for us and works great. Enjoy your trips.

Thanks for responding. I feel better now.

Welcome to the forum.

One thing I found a few years ago when I bought my Class C was the floor plan size will generally dictate the chassis that is used and there in nothing a consumer can do to influence the decision other than go with custom built.

I also found that most manufactures generally go with the E350 below 26 or 28 feet and then move up to the E450 at sizes over 28 feet.

Also, of note, unless you are buying a Super C you will be on the E series chassis and not the F series. There is a difference.

Could you go into a bit more detail on this issue?

I ask because there are a number of us Axis/Vegas owners where the shift cable was a bit too close to the exhaust manifold and melted. So far I don't think we've seen the issue in a Class-C unit.

Yeah that is an E-Series unit:

I do not have detailed information on that issue at this time. The RV dealer was prepping the unit for us when they found a "check light". Their people could not figure it out so they sent it to the local Ford dealer. They came back 2 days later and said it was a faulty wire harness to the transmission. I have not driven it yet so I have no idea if was just an idiot light or something that could be felt when driving.
I will pick it up on Friday and try to get more info.
