THOR #14847
Hello from Middleburg Fl

Hello, new to this forum but was on Forest River forum before. Bought new to me 2017 Thor Vegas 24.1 a month ago only had 8,200 miles so still new. Have only dry camped at Safety Plus one night. Currently at Ford dealer trying to figure out chassis AC. When I test drove it worked fine. Driving home from (private) seller was on interstate 75 started to get warmer got stuck in traffic started to get cold again. Took trip to Austell worked about 20 min then started to get warm so we just opened windows. Got back took to dealer they said had no Freon they filled put dye in gave it back to me. I picked it up same thing 15-20 minutes gets warm. Took back to dealer they rechecked no leaks full of Freon. I picked up but drove around instead of going home same thing gets warm at highway speed after 15 min. Took back to dealer he can’t figure it out. Only mod we got done was making smaller table for up front and command hooks and screen in front of radiator , resealed around all windows.
Waiting to travel now. Lol

Unfortunately, the Vegas Chassis AC is a Thor add on, so you are lucky that the Ford dealer will look at it. Hope he fixes it for you. One note, the temperature switch for the AC is nothing more than an on/off switch - at least in my 2016. In mine, if it gets too cold and you turn the switch to warmer, it shuts the AC off. And it doesn’t necessarily turn back on again until you turn the knob back to full cold.

I know as much about air-conditioning, as Hogs do about the Sabbath...

But welcome to the Forum anyway!

Welcome to the forum!

Some time back, a fellow forum member put together an excellent crowd-sourced manual for Axis/Vegas. Here's the link to Ed Felker's manual:
https://1drv.ms/w/s!AiYx6DLSeiiP53x246awlGrg8B-I

You'll find it much more helpful than the various component manuals that should have come with your rig. There are a lot of helpful folks here, bring your questions!

I had already found Mr. Felkers manual and have printed it and put it in my coach along with wiring diagrams I found on here also. Ford dealer still has it, service manager is RV owner so that’s why I think he is willing to work on it.

still no ac

ok dealer(Ford) has had it for 2 weeks they checked system said was full of freon and added dye. i picked it up after a week test drove it went 20 minutes started getting warmer. drove back to dealer got service manger to come out sit in passenger seat temp was 85 coming out of vents. he said ok leave it ago will have tech look at it again. waited another week picked up service manager said they couldn't find anything wrong. he did say they found a fuse or relay that when they touched it shut down ac system but that would shut fans radio everything down. i drove it home 30 min started to get warm, went back to 85 stopped to get gas and propane and started it back up got cold again? any thoughts? warm in Fla lol

Not going to say that i know a lot about A/C systems, but i did have a similar problem once before and it turned ou t to be the expansion valve was defective. Worked for a while then didn't.

Did they check the Thermostat? Sounds like it could be out of calibration.

Update

Ok had friend with scan iPad hook up to obd input while driving ac compressor not engaging scan tool was able to turn on compressor on. Dash switch is on but had no effect on compressor turning on or off then 15 min later compressor shut off. Turned engine off 10 min turned back on started driving again compressor turned on as dash switch turned on seemed to work 15 min later compressor shut off. So is there a module or relay for ac put in by Thor not Ford that might be bad. Getting hot here in Fl 97-98 next week.
