Hello from Northern California

New to motorhome ownership moving from an Eclipse Attitude 25FS toy hauler to our new 2022 Outlaw 29J. Picking it up Friday. Looking for advise and wisdom about check out and testing before we drive it off the dealer lot. Already enjoy and have learned a lot from y'all posts and comments.

Welcome to the forum.

If anything is wrong don’t sign and walk away until it is right. Dealer promises to repair after sale are garbage. If something is wrong and you sign the problem ownership transfers from them to you.

Check every system, operate every slide ( extend and retract) if dual fuel hot water check one way, drain the tank then check the other. Open every drawer and cabinet and look inside. Operate all AV equipment to make sure it’s connected correctly. Take a DVD with you to check DVD operation if a player is installed.

Look under the coach to make sure they are no dangling participles or fluid leaks.

Hopefully you took it on an adequate test drive (highway and local) to identify handling characteristics.

Wish you well and don’t be afraid to walk away if it’s not 100 percent right.

Use your cellphone to video the PDI with the person showing you how to operate everything. Watch as many videos on your specific unit in order to get a feel for how it is supposed to work before the PDI. Learn as much about the coach as possible.

Best advice= rvchecklist is an app.
Ultimate advice= check emotions in your car, deep breath, get out of car, do not take the rv if any single thing is wrong.

If you're worried about hurting the salespersons feelings or you believe them when they say they'll fix it all later...you deserve what happens later.

One (of many) thing I've learned is to pull out all the drawers and areas you can access behind panels, under dinettes, etc and look for support structures that have misaligned screws or wood that's been split from driving too large a screw into too small and soft a piece of wood without pre-drilling. Same hold true for the huge staples they use to attached adjoining cabinet framing. They know you will never see this on inspections so it just gets covered up and sent down the line.

Don't be rushed by them during inspection. They KNOW, the more you delve into and under things, the MORE issues you WILL find. Let them know ahead of time you want power and water available for the walk through and you expect to spend 2 to 3 hours with your inspection PRIOR to signing any papers or writing any checks.

And most important...DO NOT accept it with a promise by them to repair anything after the fact. As stated above...you are on your own after the sale.

Beau did an overnight stay.

If their 'insurance says no' (insert feeble reason they use because they hope you're stupid)excuse can't be overridden, walk.

So we took delivery of the 2022 29J yesterday. Thanks for all of your advise everyone. We spent 7 hours going over the coach and having the dealer fix everything we found before we finalized the deal. We purchased the motorhome from DeMartini RV in Grass Valley Ca. They were very paicent with us as we found issues and they fixed everything we asked for. We were the last to leave after they closed for the day. A long process but worth the time.
