Hello from RV Newbie

Hello. My husband and I plan to retire and start Full Time RVing within the coming year. We are looking at buying a Thor Windsport 35M, or equivalent. Hopefully one 1-3 years old to avoid the 1st year headaches I've read about.

I've recently learned many manufacturers will VOID the warranty if you are using it Full Time. Is that true for Thor? Also, are there issues with getting insurance if you are Full-timing? We will be pulling a trailer with 2 motorcycles.

We're trying to learn as much as we can in advance. Have rented a Class C and a Class A previously for family vacations.

All helpful advice is very welcome and appreciated!!

BJ

Welcome to the forum!

We have a Hurricane 35C which is a very similar floorplan to the 35M and we full time in it. We purchased it about 15 months before we started full timing in it. To the best of my knowledge, full timing doesn't void the warranty but it will sure bring out all of the bugs pretty quickly as things get used far more frequently than if just using once a month, etc. We decided to buy early to work out all of the warranty items before heading on our long road trip.

We have full timers insurance through Progressive currently. We use an agency (Brown and Brown of Kentucky) that specializes in RV insurance and Progressive had the best rates.

Hope this helps! There are lots of ways to do this and everyone will have a different set of requirements. Take your time and put the effort in up front and you will be happier.

Enjoy!

Welcome.

Since the Thor warranty is only 1 year anyway there won't be any left on a 1-3 year old unit. The Ford warranty will still be good as some of the other individual appliance warranties but the overall one will be done.

In addition: The individual appliance manufacturers warrant their items regardless of where/when they are installed (they don't know if you're full timing or if its installed in a construction or movie lot trailer, etc.).

I plan on doing on the road full time but I have some questions. What do you do for mail, need a physical address for income tax, drivers license, tags, and so on. My alternative is to rent a lot on a year round camping site, which I have only one available in my area (Trois-Rivieres Quebec) that would give me an address, and be able to travel anywhere in Canada and USA, but the mail will not be able to track me down lol... I would not mind selling everything and enjoy road trips in my RV but my wife questions the mail issue, along with doctors visits etc.
