Hello Thor owners

My husband and I are in the process of buying a 2017 Freedom Elite 26HE from LaMesa dealership. It has 9,900 miles however the tires are Michelin’s 2016. The tires look good and Michelin’s should last 10 years. I am still concerned with the age. I know RV tires should be replaced after 5 years. Should I be concerned and possibly use this as a bargaining chip. Would it be better to get the price down and replace them ourselves or have them do it before purchase?
We have owned 2 Heartland 5th wheels but never a Class C and not one this old.
My husband is retiring in 8 months so trying to get everything in order for some travel.
Any information would be appreciated 😊

Not sure what your position is with pricing and negotiating but as far as tires...yes, replace them whatever way is best. 5 years is the comfortable life span and who knows how long they've sat directly in the sun during storage.

I would definitely replace the tires, they are going to need to be replaced. So if you can then to come down on the price go for it. If you can’t I wouldn’t let it be a deal breaker. If the tires were two years newer they probably wouldn’t replace them for you and you would be out the money either way. Take it as assurance that you have new tires that are good for the next five years.

Welcome. If it were me, I would closely inspect inside and outside sidewalls for dry checking (little lightning bolt splits). Do the same for each groove. Yes it will take physically getting on your back with a flashlight. If the tires have been kept covered, and hot parked on concrete or gravel without a rubber pad, they can last much longer than 5 years. There will probably be many of the Forum “ engineers” who will disagree. However, if you can negotiate new tires thrown in, go for it.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who replied. Any thoughts on how much per tire we are talking? I know they are more than car tires
