Smile Hello from TX - new to RVing

Hi. Hubby and I are looking to buy the 2022 Quantum KW29. I am retired and waiting for hubby to retire. We will be putting our down payment next month. Any tips for newbies? Looking forward to hitting the road and meeting new people and seeing new places.

Welcome to the forum. Make sure you have a complete walk-thru from the dealer. Have them demonstrate how to operate everything, and make sure EVERYTHING works.

When you do the walk through and try out everything (twice), video each demonstration on your cell phone in case you miss something by the dealer and then you can replay it. If possible, see if you can stay in their lot for one night in order to try everything out without leaving. During the walk thru, have the dealership write down any and all concerns to be addressed before signing off on the purchase. It is a bit different than buying a new car. Welcome to the forum.

Paul

Thank you for the welcome. I bought a notebook for all my questions so I won’t forget anything. We are buying the RV from Motorhome Specialists and they have a lot out back with hook-ups and they make the suggestion that everyone who is new spend the night so if you need more info or have questions you can get it taken care of before you drive off the lot. Right now we are also having a tough time finding a place to store it. Every place we go seems to be full. One of my bucket list items is to travel and visit national parks.

Motorhome specialists are amazing ..we did a 3 hour walk through and all worked and hit the road from Texas to Montana..found things camping on our way home and a couple of camping trips and all warranty items fixed .good luck..

Ah, Grasshopper. Welcome to the forums. I see you have your first "reality check"...finding a place to store your RV. Just wait till you try to find a place to go camping...it's nuts out there. Not trying to discourage you, just reality of the past year. Everyone decided during "covid" that they need an RV. State and National Parks are great...good luck finding a spot for more than one night. Now the good news. There are lots of great apps that will help you find sites. Start asking what people are using to find their camping sites and travel plans. Don't let it discourage you, make it fun by planning in advance. That's my first advise to a newbie. We love RVing and there is so much to see in this great country, lots of it is in your "back yard"! Have fun and enjoy...hope to meet you on the road.

Welcome!

While you are waiting and searching for a place to store your new jewel, check out www.overnightRVparking.com It now is part of Togo with an annual fee of $40, but it gives you a lot of info to help you find free places to park. Way beyond just Wally World. We have benefited greatly over the years, as we often don't require all the services of a campground.

We used a GoPro. I've looked back several times at the video. One thing I didn't do is test the hot water heater on all three modes. Test it on shore power, drain completely until cold, test on propane, drain again, and test on generator. Mine failed on propane while boondocking and had no hot water all weekend!

Don't forget the roof. I had taken a couple of pictures just after we got it and a few months later noticed that there was no XM radio antenna!

Sign NOTHING til it's all to your liking, once you've signed on the dotted line it's VERY difficult to get speedy service.
As mentioned take videos, take notes, take a roll of blue painters tape to mark anything to be repaired, push every button/pull every knob, look over/under/in between everything, don't assume ASK, take as long as necessary to inspect EVERYTHING til you're comfortable that you understand how, don't be rushed by anyone, then go sign the paperwork & then drive off into the sunset to enjoy the experience.

Rule Number 1
Don't pay sticker MSRP price. Contact no less than 10 Thor dealers all over the country for their best price. You may save $10,000 or more which would make it well worth going after.

Rule Number 2
If it's not in writing the dealer never said it. Get every promise/upgrade in writing.

Rule Number 3
Don't let the finance guy at the dealership talk you into all the extra "warranties and tire insurance garbage". They are all seriously overpriced and you can buy cheaper on your own.

Rule Number 4
Don't but the dealer sold "paint Protection" it's way way way over priced and not worth what they sell it for. You can obtain that service cheaper on your own.

Rule Number 5
Spend the night at the dealership camping in your new RV before you complete all the paperwork and drive away. Check everything, use everything, play with everything. You will find all types of little issues. You need to have them ALL fixed before you sign and leave.

Welcome aboard the Thor train.
