Hello from WA State! Shopping possibly for a used CA

Hi everyone,

I'm Rich from Washington State near the Seattle area in Lynnwood. Raised in the California by way of the SF Bay Area, currently living and working in Washington state. My wife and I are are in our mid 40s with a enthusiastic home schooled 13 year old currently looking at used Cruise America RVs as we're planning on doing some month long stays in California (mostly during winter). We're looking into their Thor Majestic 28A as it will fit our long stays nearby our relatives in San Diego and the SF Bay Area.

We personally don't mind the bare bones config of the CAs. God knows we'll probably modify the interior since I work from home full time. Stuff to figure out as we shop around as we're also considering other used alternatives. Will admit, we're first time prospective RV owners but been doing research for the past year and a half and are looking into taking the plunge soon.

Other than that, glad to make your acquaintances.

Welcome to our group. In my opinion this is the best RV forum you’ll ever find. There are very few questions or problems that won’t be helped by a visit here!

Rental units can be very cost effective and might be a good first choice due to their relative simplicity. Sometimes they lead a hard life though and I’d recommend bringing an experienced RVer or even a hired professional inspector with you when you go to test drive. At the very least take a good long test drive (or maybe even rent it for a few days if they’ll let you) and test every single system, feature and control. Inspect closely for water damage or mold and look at the roof for cracks or gaps in the sealing and caulking. Ask to see the service records and don’t hesitate to at least ask for new tires or batteries if yours are suspect. There’s a bit of a learning curve to RVing but I expect you’ll love it! Happy travels.

Welcome aboard! We bought 1 year old a dealer rental and have been pleased with it. This was not our first motorhome, though it was our first class A. Our last coach had all the ticky tackey crap that goes wrong on a new unit, it took a year to shake out most of the bugs. This one the dealer had done the "de-bugging" while it was in the rental fleet.

I bought the extended warranty for my ACE as the factory warranty was expired. You will hear pros and cons to the extended warranty. You can cancel an extended warranty and get a refund for the duration not used. I felt it was a good investment, at least short term. First summer on the warranty I had the electric steps repaired and a tire with a cut on the inside sidewall replaced.
