Shore power/ batteries issue

I'm a new member and wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. My house batts died totally and may be shorted. Shore power would not pass thru my transfer switch or inverter. Same with batts removed. Coach was essentially dead. No AC no gen start no jacks no slides would operate. Engine would start ok but nothing else. "Aux start" switch which should link the chassis and house batts was useless. Does this not seem like a horrible design or am I missing something?

Is the "Use/Store" switch set to the "Use' setting?
If it is: you didn't miss anything...
There's a problem in there somewhere!

power issue

My coach has a "house batt switch". Momemtary not latching which tells me that it is likely wired to a heavy duty solenoid to handle the amps. Regrettably I neglected to switch the batts off when I took the coach in for service. House batts were 4 years old and died completely after several days. The switch was never activated to disconnect the house batts. As soon as I installed 4 new batts everything returned to normal. Just can't figure why shore power was disabled.

Glad you got it fixed. I wonder if it needs good 12v battery in place for the shore to work properly? Perhaps the charge control didnt know how to handle such low voltage and goes into a saftey mode? Very odd.

dead house batts

Thanks for the reply. I just find it worrisome and downright shortsighted design that the generator wouldn't even start. Why shouldn't the "aux start" switch work both ways? I know it's intended for the house batts to help start the coach if chassis batts weak, but why not the other way? If boondocking with slides out I couldn't even drive the coach. Something just isn't right about that. Do Thor design engineers ever read these posts? I would like to be enlightened.

I don't think I have seen Thor and engineers used in the same sentence.
