THOR #2526
Hi! New Axis 25.3

I'm active on IRV2 but now that I have a Thor MH I'll be here first.

Just purchased it and have not used a second full tank of gas yet so don't know MPG yet. All new models are on the E450 chassis and have the new 6 speed transmission per D Koffman regional Thor Rep for Vegas/Axis. I'm happy!

On PDI only two items:
1) Pocket doors rattling and won't lock closed. Dealer's service department adjusted holes for pin. Driver's side door should shut and lock flush with wall and now does. Passenger side there are wiring harnesses behind it so the best you do is flush with wardrope which is out farther than kitchen side wall. No rattles now.
2) Entrance Door detent fell off. Reinstalled with loctite.

After one overnight stay and 350 miles return trip home no problems.

Wife loves it and she is now driving it to releave me. This is new as she would never drive the 38 ft DP. I drove it in desert cross winds and its not bad. I was pulling a Wrangler. Love the power!

Things I don't like and for people who are interested in purchasing this model:
Bad Thor Engineering on :
1- bathroom heater vent - location near door pointing under door and the room gets cold with door shut.
2 - When bedroom slide is closed for traveling the HVAC control is behind the slide wall and you have to access it by opening the slide window. Really stupid location.
3- and of course the wiring harnesses behind the passenger side pocket door. Make sure the doors latch and don't rattle.
4 - the front window shade is a pain to operate but I manage.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Items we plan to do (within a month of two at most):
A - replace dinette with recliners
B - replace batteries with Lithium ones and solar panels
C - Add elbow to sewer connector - access is a pain. (Thor did change it to swivel but not good enough) - may go with macerator not sure yet.
D - Add front steering stabilizer (purchased Safe-T-Plus waitning for it to arrive).
E - replace the two accordian shades with day/night ones. Other windows have black out shades - why not all windows??
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Will add before and after photos of changes.

Welcome to the forum!

Just a reminder about the recommended alignment, once you get it fully loaded for travel.

We use reflective shades for car windshields to darken our bedroom windows. They do even better than the black out shades, and easily removable.

There has been at least one owner here with a real nightmare with the stock batteries. However, when you consider the # of contributors to this forum, most people are getting along fine with the stock ones so far. I believe there was a problem with the disconnect in the earlier models. Both used 2014 Axis we looked at on dealers lots a year ago needed jumped, and their battery saver switches were set to "store". Unless you have a special reason to switch them out, you might have better places to spend your battery money.

Here's to making happy camping memories!

I also was talking to Thor Customer Service today and they confirmed that Thor is no longer installing the problem stock batteries. They have gone to a different manufacturer.

We talked to the vendor at Quartzsite last week and he is located in Ventura where we are. His prices look very good especially for the lithium batteries.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Have been a member for a while just didn't post until I got my Thor The hardest mod ( most work) has been the recliners. Wanted to use home version but they are not any cheaper for the same quality of the RV made models. Spent two days running around to furniture stores. We have decided to go with LAMBRIGHT LAZY RELAXER "LITE" wall hugger from Coach Supply Direct. They are sending the swatches for color selection. The dinette area in the 25.3 is 84 x 64 so its really wide but very close when the chairs are fully reclined. One chair its no problem as its over the entrance but the other must be cocked to not hit the cabinets with your feet.

Thanks for the reminder - plan to do it after the Safe-T-Plus installed.

Second gas tank

Pulling the Wrangler I got 8.61mpg (first tank) - speed was on Interstate avg. 60-65
Second fill-up I got 10.19. on local highways and top speed was 55.
I'm happy with these

Added these 8" shiny things to each mud flap to keep the passenger side one from melting on tail pipe

Added some Fatmat for the engine cover (the kit came with knife and roller)
http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B003TU6066

Thor put in a small piece in the center of the cover. I added to it. Same under the dash board - added to it all around. What a pain getting the cover back on. Putting on the Fatmat was like going wallpaper but its thicker.

There is the quote I got from RVsolarventura.com for solar system and Lithium battery:

1 each 260 watt 24v solar panel 399.00 2 each
1 each 200 amp hr 12v lithium battery 1700.00
1 30 amp charge controlers , convertor
To 12v with volt settings 285.00
Wiring and z clips 95.00
Installation for solar panel and battery , modify battery plate,
Run all wires and hook up system 6 hrs at 85.00 per 510.00 estimated

Reference comment about melting mud flap on passenger side:

I had seen the same comments in the forum before I picked up my 2015 Vegas 24.1. In checking my Vegas, I noticed there are two metal extensions sticking out in front of my mud flap. It is obvious that the intention was for the mud flap to be between these two metal extensions, not behind them. I removed the mud flap and slid it between the two extensions and reattached the mud flat. It now lacks flexibility to blow back against the hot tailpipe. I have over 5000 miles on the coach and there is no sign of the mud flap melting.

Yes Thor added the two metal bars which the Mud flap goes between to hold them. You can not see them in the picture as its mounted higher on the flap. Still burned the flap. Perhaps they mounted it too high on the fender wall. If the factory worker had no context as to why the brackets were needed ...they may have mounted them too high.
