So new I don't even own a Thor yet...

Hello. I'm starting on this forum as a very new newbie that I don't even own a Thor yet. I'm still in the process of shopping and I'm using this platform to gather ideas to help me see which model. Currently thinking a Vegas 24.1.

I would be upsizing from a Ford Transit Class B that I built for annual father-daughter trips.

My Transit has to sell before I can get into a Thor.

Welcome.

If you want to know everything there is about a Vegas (or Axis) 24.1 then download and read Ed's crowd sourced Axis/Vegas owner's manual found here:
https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f1...nual-4961.html

That will definatey prepare you for the road ahead...

Welcome, make sure you look at other brands besides the companies that make up Thor Industries. You might find a floorplan that meets your needs. I would also avoid Camping World/Gander RV sales. There are lots of RV dealerships out there that will provide quality sales and support.

Welcome to the forum! We found our Vegas to be a Goldilocks coach, not too big and not too small. If I was shopping today, I would look for a good used unit and get an independent tech to check it out. Happy hunting!

For a moment I thought you were very rich, then I remembered Gulf Stream (note the space) builds RV's.

I happen to work for Gulfstream (no space), we build corporate jets.

It’s the best forum I’m on. Bar none. They even let us SOBs (Some Other Brand) participate and I find that much of the information and advice is applicable across the board.

No, not a corporate jet!

Several here have and enjoy the 24.1...curious what you think you’d like — and not like — about it and what else you’re considering.

I currently have a Ford Transit class B. Want a bit more room for annual father-daughter trips. Looking for something under 26 feet. Because of trips I want twin beds, not a queen. Rather not convert a sofa every night also. Also, no slide outs required to sleep in the 24.1.

An alternate selection I considered is Winnebago 22R. It is wider though then the 24.1 and has the bunk-over overhang. I like the huge window of the 24.1.

After 3 years we sold a beautiful class C; always thought that Class A units were huge and expensive — until I drove the 2018 Axis 24.1 and experienced the greater visibility while driving. For me, shower and bathroom sink size are negatives; also, interior colors and microwave placement. Others can weigh in on battery placement and other more important and technical stuff. Regarding floor plan, the list of things I love for just 2 of us is long:

Integrated steps
Legless awning
Basement storage capacity
Lots of generous inside overhead storage
Storage doors that clamp up
3 TVs including outside
38” wide beds always accessible
Rear window and lots of windows
Only one slide
Huge rear storage bay with easy access from 3 sides
No steps within living area
Gasoline — not the initial expense of Diesel
Not too digital in the 2018
Drop down bed can be lowered to serve as a place to stow stuff when parked

Always shopping, I don’t find anything I like better. Many that I do like don’t have a rear window.

Choose something and go have fun!

I also think a rear window is important; not so much for driving because camera and mirrors can get the job done, but more for general visibility when camping or just parked somewhere. Often back-in sites have nice views to the rear that can’t be enjoyed as much without a rear window.

I’m not sure why manufacturers started to eliminate rear windows that were common up to about 10 years ago. They then started leaving rear windows off on many motorhomes that had them previously.

It’s a feature I like on Axis 24.1, and one missing on newer motorhomes like the Winnebago EKKO. By contrast, manufacturers have been designing some Class B van campers with rear screen curtains to allow leaving rear doors completely open, suggesting they know that a view to the back is important. Granted, in a van it makes limited space feel larger also.

Modifications are too easy to execute to let something like a window have even slight impact on choice.

$200 including the jigsaw and caulk you'll need.

Make.it.yours.
