New guy still looking

Hi everyone. I joined your informative site because I have been interested in learning everything I can about The Thor Vegas/Axis. We are still looking and hope to do something by the time our weather changes here in Central Ohio. I have been amazed at the amount of product knowledge there is here. Thanks everyone. We started out looking at C classes on the Sprinter chassis but decided the small class A might be more our speed. I recently looked at and test-drove a "2017" Vegas at a local dealer. Its the first time we saw one in person.

Welcome to the forum! We bought our Vegas at Paul Sherry RV in Piqua, OH. They gave us a better deal than all the other dealers we checked, and did a great job of getting our coach ready for delivery. That's been 4 years now, but I suggest you give them a chance to help you out of your money!

We started looking at Class C coaches, however, discovered the VEGAS\AXIS seemed much roomier for the size than a same (or larger) Class C.

Plus the view from the driver's and passenger seats is SO much better than the Class Cs that we looked at.

We also picked the 25.2 floor plan (now discontinued) since it basically had a separate bedroom so the early riser can get up and move around while the sleep inner is still crashed out..

We are really happy with our choice...

Hi and welcome quietriot.

I think the trick to buying the RV of your dreams is to make a list of all of the priorities you want/need in it. Then look around and find one that checks as many boxes as possible.

Even if you have to travel quite a distance find reputable dealer that has great reviews servicing the brand RV you choose. Most of the horror stories I hear about warranty issues are the fault of a dealer that doesn’t work well with the manufacture.

Have fun!

Bill

Keep in mind..
Your 1st coach is a learning tool..
When You tour/view "In Person" any perspective coach..
View it First with all slides retracted,
If the coach is fully usable without the slides extended, then give it a second look.
(Think wally-docking,rest areas,truckstops...any where that you cannot/do not have room for the slides to be extended)

BUY USED! & buy one with everything you "think" you want and will need..
IF the perspective coach seems a bit small but still "DO-Able" .......REMEMBER!!!
What seemed small... becomes unbearably TINY after being Coop'd up" for a week or more due to weather...
(AKA.....Cabin Fever)
And.... You WILL make mistakes and have booboo's We all have.....(sometimes more than twice..)
Within a year or two you will discover..about the RV

What you love about the RV...
What you can kinda-sorta tolerate with the RV..
And what you absolutely hate about that !@#$%^%$#@! RV.
Then you can go get what you should have gotten in the first place..
Happy Hunting

Agree with most of the suggestions by Saddlesore. This forum is a great place to learn from other's experiences.

One thing that is often recommended is to rent a coach for a week or a weekend before you buy. Try to find one with a similar floorplan, if possible. Maybe do it again with a different rig, maybe several rentals. Each time, you'll discover more about what you need, what you want, and what would be nice to have. It may seem expensive, but in the long run it might save you tons of money.

You didn't say which Vegas model you tested. For us and the way we travel, our 2016 Vegas 25.2 is just right. That's a good thing, as to upgrade to a 2019 Vegas or Axis would cost me around $30K. Choose wisely!

BTW, when we spend a night in a parking lot, we never had a problem with extending, even with our previous coach with a side bedroom slide. Still, some coaches are a pain when retracted. Those with a corner bed are always a pain, IMHO.

Happy hunting!

Thanks for the welcomes. The Motorhome we test drove a few weeks back was a 2017 Vegas 25.2. We really liked it but also would also consider the 24.1 as well. I liked the bedroom privacy and layout of the 25.2. I assume the 24.1 has similar door separating the bedroom. I would probably use the King size option if we ended up with the 24.1.
Thanks for all the advise.
we actually found a 2015 Thor 24.1 to rent that's close to home thru Rvshare site.

Welcome, We love our 2017 Axis 25.4.

No, it shows a curtain on the 24.1 floor plan. I have a curtain on my floor plan. It works Ok but if you have kids or a dog it wont last long IMO.

We dont use it very often but it would give some privacy when needed.

You may want to look at the Thor super c. They are larger than the c and have a Diesel engine. Much better handling than the A you are looking at and much more power. Handling and ride is one of the most important things to consider when buying a mh not just floor plan.

Good luck on your quest for the perfect mh. We first bought a 2016 Class B Winnebago ERA in 2015. After many issues and 1 1/2 yrs of ownership, we traded up for the Thor Siesta 24SS with 2 slides. It is still built on the Mercedes Benz Chassis but is larger with the 2 slides. The technology included is great compared to just 1 1/2 yrs earlier. We love the ride and power of that diesel. We also now have a dry bath which is much nicer. We also have a constant tankless hot water heater. No more running out of hot water. We also have outside compartments to carry most of our stuff. Looking forward to our cross country trip planned for this April (west coast to east coast and back).

Yeah but it sound like he wants something small.

But your right, Super C is the way to go if you want great towing compacity, good ride and much cheaper than a DP. But they are too long for many of us and I dont tow anything so what is the point.

I really like the floor plans that are comming out on the sprinter chassis now. If the Axis/Vegas was invented that would be the next one I would look at for a smallish RV.

Ditto to saddlesore. Just remember, the Vegas/Axis is considered by Thor to be an entry-level RV, hence (?) their "RUV" invented name. It's a little bit less on everything. But we love it. The size fits our mobile, 2-4 nights, style. We can stay in the smaller CGs, maneuver pretty well and suspension upgrades, it's a very comfortable ride. If you can find a used one with the bugs worked out you'll be pleased.

"gnach" hit it on the head exactly.

We love our Axis but we wanted a small RV (and IMO nothing looks as cool on the market right now). But I have also added a ton of extra stuff that a larger RV might already have (like inverter, hydraulic levelers etc).

But I wound have it any other way.
