Insurance

Does anyone have thoughts on purchasing the very expensive good Sam insurance package from Camping world? Comes with several aspects including roadside assistance, tire and wheel, bumper to bumper, etc. stuff. $12,000 option. Had to tell the manager I would get back to him on that one.

'GoodSam' is simply acting as any independent insurance agency where you can purchase insurance - the policy is no different than that of any other agency from the same set of carriers. Most likely they are 'selling' National General, but it may depend on your State.

If you already have auto insurance, simply add your RV to your existing policy, and pick whatever coverages you desire. If you auto insurer doesn't offer RV insurance, there are PLENTY to pick from if you start searching. You'll also not know if the 'GoodSam' quote is expensive, or not, until you do.

also, I don't know of any Camping World which has a resident 'insurance agent' who is licensed to sell insurance, which is a regulated product - most likely they will just send you over to a 800 phone number, or provide an online application.

...AND, claim their commission!! Sister the same policy and protection plans with other companies and compare pricing. You can always reach out to Good Sam directly, after the sale. I still get crap in the mail from them two years later trying to sell me the same thing. That price is ridiculous and sounds like they've "bundled" extended warranty, someone's boat payment and a lot of other garbage into it!! What is the term for that amount? surely not just one year!

Plus...if you're financing, you will be paying interest compounds on insurance. Not a good thing if you can avoid it.

Extended warranty

My apologies, I should have used the terminology “extended warranty “. Thanks for the responses. Does anyone know of a company that offers a decent warranty plan to cover major items. CW and Good Sam are offering a package from $9-12 k.

7 years on some items, 5 on others, etc. new it was fishy when we declined and he was offering to lower the price to close the deal before we left.

You would be far better off to take the money you would have spent on an "Extended Warranty" policy and put it in an investment account and only use it for unexpected RV repairs during the "life" of the policy. You will probably find out any repairs were free as when your time period has elapsed you will still have at least all of your principal.

I had the Good Sam Xtended warranty on my former DP. When the engine suddenly had no oil pressure, and the RV needed to be towed to a Cummings repair facility, the cost was well over $5000.00 for repairs. After deductibles, etc. my share was under $1,000.00, so IMO the cost was worth it.

Just do a Google search on Camping world and extended warranty. Personally I can buy a lot of work for $12,000

In the four years or so, that I had the extended, I spent nowhere near $12,000, not even half of that, and with the major engine repair most all of the premiums, if not more, were returned to me.

I agree with the comment about shopping with your current auto policy. You might find by bundling with your current policy, you may save overall.

Insurance with Good Sam

I decided to let them give me a quote (Good Sam, but not thru Camping World) and although I already had gotten what my premiums with Progressive would be for this year, Good Sam also quotes Progessive...at a much lower rate. Doesn't hurt to check around.
As for an extended warranty, I went for it because I am a single woman traveling alone, and I really don't want to feel on my own, cost wise, for major repairs.

Don't buy it as a part of your financing package. They tried to charge us $12k and financed it over 120 months. I bought it directly from a Good Sam and it's renewable every year and you can change deductibles. I think our first year of TOTAL front to back coverage was $800.

I agree that Nationwide's RV insurance was very reasonable, $63 month.

I added my RV to my Geico policy. Does not include repairs but has road side assistance and towing. Way, way cheaper.
