Hello - Newbie from Virginia - 2017 Axis

Hello from Virginia - Glad to be in the RV community. We recently purchased a lightly used 2017 Thor Axis 24.1 from the previous owners. Only 6,500 miles on it and in really great shape. Found this forum and happy to connect with others interested in fun and camping experiences. Thank you all. Open to any hints, ideas and suggestions or input from others with same model.

Yes it is our 1st RV. Camping before has been "ground" or tailgate camping so feel like we are "big stuff" now!
Interested in suspension upgrades and finding some great info here in the Forum related to that! thanks to all!!

Congratulations on "upping our game"!
I'm sure you've already figured out that your prior camping experience will easily help you to transition to "glamping".

Welcome. A lot of great knowledge here. None of it from me.

We have a 2015 Chateau 28Z. So far:

1. Auto levelers.
2. Steering stabilizer.

Next is new front and rear sway bars and new Bilstein shocks.

I grew up tent camping so this "glamping" stuff is new to us also.

Hello and welcome.

If you haven't already you may want to download and read the crowd sourced Axis/Vegas owners manual found here:

I am not sure that moving from tent/ground camping to a MH is inherently considered moving to 'glamping". That term, a contraction of glamor camping is nothing like what we do.

Yes having a motorhome means a nice place to sleep, cook inside when you want and hang out inside when it is cold and rainy outside. But it hasn't changed which campsites we frequent at all. We still camp at basic NP, USFS and State Park campsites and we still do the same things- hike, cook outside usually and sit around the campfire after dinner that we did when tent camping.

I don't consider our style of camping to be glamping by a long shot. Glamping to me is a furnished yurt or similar with gourmet meals prepared for you and organized daytime activities. Not what I want to do.

welcome, my suggestion is keep maintaining everything, do not let the RV sit. Each week, you have a task, run the generator, next week run the engine, next week clean the water system out, next week clean the black and gray tanks, then next week wash the RV. Cycle your awning, extend your leveling blocks, run the slide out, lubricate everything, door hinges, screen slides, storage compartment locks with lubricant.

And then finally fill with fuel, water, groceries, the dog... and go camping!

I also came from tent camping. In Boy Scouts, I've hike all of the mountains in Southern California and did a couple of 50 milers through the Sierras with stops on Mount Whitney and Half Dome in Yosemite. I do appreciate my own bathroom!

I'm not new to RV camping. That's me in the middle!

Thor Axis 24.1 (2017) w/Ford V-10 6.8L. Re:Oil Filter

Hi .. wanted to pass on some information from my very reliable mechanic. I was informed to NEVER use a FRAM oil filter on this engine. He states that the FRAM will actually damage the V-10. I will research further but thought that I would put this out there in the meantime. He recommended that I always use the Ford OEM filter made for this engine. Most auto parts stores carry them and they are reasonably priced to the FRAM.

Found more opinions here...
